I don’t think the heading was clear. The ordinance being discussed is in regards to picking up day laborers. There is a proposed 250 dollar fine that will be given to anyone picking up a day laborer not in a designated area. We will discuss the legality, and practicality, of such an ordinance. We will discuss whether it will be enforceable, and other ways the day laborer issue may be resolved without causing any uproar.

Why limit it to day laborers? You’ll solve two problems at once as well as avoid legal challenges to the ordinance by simply outlawing stopping to pick up a passenger without pulling over into a parking spot (if available).

Yes, this means that you’ll have to park & Bubbie will have to walk to your parked car like everyone else and that your wife can’t just “run in” to the store while you’re double parked.

I was thinking the same thing #4.
Since we want to start finding people for picking up day laborers we shouldn’t stop there. We should find anyone who double park and those big delivery trucks that block the already norrow Clifton Avenue to make deliveries should be fined also. Its hard to navigate around them when they are making their delivery with no regards to others.

Well, I think Lakewood needs to get it’s priorities straight. Before you start fining people for picking some one up, how about we start with giving out tickets and enforcing the laws that are all ready in place before making new ones. Traveling in this town is a danger! People driving while on cell phones, people going through stop signs and red lights, double parking anywhere they feel like it, kids not in car seats, the list goes on. start fixing what’s already broken before you even think about making new laws. What a joke!
And most of all think before you act, because you may end up crossing that line of discrimination. Can’t we all just get along?
