Longtime Lakewood Activist Bill Hobday Passes Away

Bill Hobday, a longtime activist in Lakewood, has passed away following an illness. He was 78.

Bill Hobday is a true Lakewood hero. After serving our Country out of McGuire Air Force Base, Hobday, 78, moved to Howell.

It was during that time that he met his beloved late wife of 55 years, Tarissa. The Hobdays moved to the Fairways Adult Community in 2000.

After retiring from a top executive position at McGraw Hill, Mr. Hobday decided it was time to give back. He ran for a seat on the Fairways board, and won every election he ran in. For 13 years he gave to his community, never missing a Township Meeting, a zoning board meeting or a planning board meeting. Hobday served as the liaason between the Township and the Fairways community dealing with many issues over the decades.

Hobday had become a close confidant of leading members of all the Lakewood committees and has been a voice of reason and leadership. As a public servant, Mr. Hobday always sought dialogue and open discussion to conflict and prided himself at the strong and loyal friendships he has made over the years.

May he Rest In Peace.

Below is an interview TLS did with Mr. Hobday last year.

  1. I had the pleasure of speaking with him a few times. This man was a true gentleman. While he had disagreements with many aspects of development in Lakewood, he was always decent about stating his views.
