Local Yeshivah Changes the Way Bachurim Raise Money this Purim

bachurim learning lkwd tlsOne local Yeshivah is changing the way Bachurim raise money for their Yeshivah this Purim, TLS has learned.

Instead of having Bachurim dress up and go around dancing etc, one Bachur approached his Menahel and suggested the Bachurim instead sit and learn for a few hours, and get sponsors for the Zechus of having them Learn on the Yom Tov.

The Bachur explained that this will save money by not having to hire drivers, and also prevent any unnecessary events from occurring – which tend to happen when Bachurim make their way around town.

The Menahel appreciated the suggestion, and decided to implement it this Purim.

The Yeshivah decided to create a six-hour Learning program – three hours before Shachris, and three hours after the Megilla Leining on Purim day. The goal is to raise $50 per hour for each Bachur.

  1. I would definitely donate to this yeshiva and hope that many other middos will follow suit. Please publicize the yeshiva do I can donate. Thanks!

  2. why are you posting eli’s comment. his words are laced with sheer antagonistic intent. this idea is amazing!!! I would love to donate and get a shear in this zichus on such a special day!!

  3. call me an oisvorf…but I disagree. As a mother of wonderful boys who are big masmidim and metzuyanim, I feel they need the outlet Purim allows them. Can you imagine if the girl’s high schools cancel their play and have a 6 hour Chidon instead?! Can you imagine the outcry. I agree that some boys go overboard, but that doesn’t mean everyone should loose out. My son’s Yeshivah is having a mesiba after Megilla with music and dancing but my son feels very gyped. He has been looking forward to his Mesifta purim for years, watching his older brothers going and hacking for days before. Let the bochorim breathe! We will create such zombies that they will get burned out before they turn 22.

  4. This issue was recently raised in one of the local papers. One of the rabbonim firstly wanted to know if all children are cut out to learn or only the mitzonim, Are the mitzoinim pushing an idea on the others? And is it a bad thing to teach bouchrim the inyan of chessed and collecting tzedaka once a year. I’ll leave out the idea that some bochrim need kosher outlets.

  5. #9- Masmid mom; I cannot disagree with you more. Chances are I see your boys in the Bais Hamedrash so I wanna be respectful. First off if you read the story it says that a bachur approached his Menahel, so you can imagine how this played out, this bachur discussed his idea with his chaveirim and then when they thought it was a good idea he decided to act on it , so we are talking about the cream of the yeshivas out there in Lakewood and beyond, that have not only a tremendous love for learning but also know the value of learning Torah on a day such as Purim. I’m not sure if this is the Lakewood Mesifta but they also instituted such a program a number of years ago and I’ve seen pictures of the boys following learning they are so b’simcha ….and they have dancing etc. afterwards.
Also many bachurim don’t feel like going and running around a half hour after fasting an entire day but they go along as there’s no other option. Without a doubt many would rather sit and learn. So again with all due respect this is coming from the boys and we should encourage it by giving a nice donation to the yeshiva and maybe sending in geshmuke cakes and drinks etc. It would be such a beautiful chizuk to the yeshiva. So let’s do it!

  6. @#11 I don’t feel so comfortable posting my number in a public forum, but if you post the name of the yeshiva, I would be happy to donate. Thanks and tizku l’mitzvos

  7. When I was a bachur I allways looked forward to purim. That being said. To the person that wrote that a bachur brought up the idea. Maybe he did it because he thought thats what the rosh yeshivah would like to hear

  8. Masmis Mom is 100% right. This “extra learning” is a good idea for the big learnenr types, the more energetic boys, however, NEED an outlet. Theres nothing wrong going around & dancing, & collecting & being misameach people, that, in fact, is the Mitzvas haYom. Cool Masmid, Im astonished at your post. You think every boy should be learning 6 hours on Purim ?! Please. You know who I am, Ill discuss it with you when we meet. Happy Purim to all !!!
