Local UPS driver hailed as hero for preventing Lakewood home from going up in flames

A local UPS driver is being hailed as a hero for his quick actions, saving a Lakewood home from going up in flames.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, Mr. Snyder was going about his deliveries in the West Gate community when a heavy smoke condition in front of a residence caught his eye. Mr. Snyder promptly pulled his truck over and rushed to investigate. Upon discovering flames coming from the bushes in front of the home, Mr. Snyder quickly grabbed a fire extinguisher from his vehicle and suppressed the fire.

“The Lakewood Board of Fire Commissioners, Fire Chief Mike D’Elia Jr., Chief Officers, and members off the Lakewood Fire Department commend the quick actions of local United Parcel Service Driver Tim Snyder for his courageous actions,” the Commissioner’s Office told TLS today.

These actions contained the fire, prevented it from spreading to the home and provided those few extra critical minutes for the Lakewood Fire Department to arrive on the scene and safely extinguish the fire.

“There is no question that Mr. Snyder’s quick thinking and brave action contributed in a significant way toward saving the home from going up in flames,” said 2nd Assistant Fire Chief Steve Mulholland. “Mr. Snyder certainly deserves our thanks and appreciation.”

  1. I watched this unfold. UPS guy saved the day. Not only did he stop the blaze before it got worse, he ran around the house and got a hose to finish the job and shouted clear instructions for the bystanders to get water. The siding on the house was melting, it was SECONDS from going up.

And with the wind the way it was, the next home is 5 feet away… this could have been a multiple home fire had this corageous man not done what he did. I heard him say his shoes were melted. True hero.
