The following, shared with TLS, is an excerpt of a letter written to a member of the UEZ, by a local group: “I am sending this letter in an effort to avoid another public spectacle. With the majority of our Kehillah members voting for Christie I think it sends a strong message about the feelings they have about taxes and corruption. While I am dedicated to working on lowering taxes wherever our help is needed, we are becoming increasingly aware of all different kinds of shenanigans that go on in this town. The LDC, has operated in the shadows for too long.
As seen with the BOE, when a public board works in the shadows, the taxpayers and residents get hurt. Only when the spotlight is focused on them will there be accountability.
After speaking to many merchants who are part of the UEZ, we found almost all feel that they receive nothing tangible from the LDC. While $23 million was spent on the Blue Claws Stadium, a debatable decision, it has finally been paid down. We are now looking at a minimum of $2.5 million dollars per year excess, that can either be spent to help the town, or to help the few connected individuals”.
