PHOTO: A local bus company who avoided the State’s required MVC inspection, made up for it today. At about 8:00 a.m. this morning, a reader notified TLS that at least five of the company’s buses were pulled over by police, who handed them a flyer demanding that the bus company complete their required inspection, today.
The flyer stated that the dozens of school buses would require bringing the buses to the Blue Claws stadium parking lot this afternoon to be inspected by a mobile inspection station.
It’s unknown if any fines were handed down. TLS-SR
I guess that is the reason that my sons bus didn’t come to pick him up today
While sitting and waiting for the buses to be inspected, I overheard the inspectors tell the police officers that of the 30 buses inspected, only 1 passed without any problems. 24 of them failed for safety issues and 5 have 30 days to fix whatever was wrong. At least they will have to make the buses safer.
they didnt avoid inspection at all. — this is called a sting —-a surprise inspection.
learn the facts before you throw these totaly unfounded and simply ridiculous acusations
Which bus company was it?
If your saying that previous inspections weren’t avoided, then how come when the state came to the yard to inspect, we were told not to return to the yard? I know my facts, thank you.
Bottom line u can’t run away !
“…It’s unknown if any fines were handed down…”
Probably will depend on who owns the bus company.
Who cares if it was a sting or the fact the company didn’t have the buses inspected for that many buses to fail is a disgrace . We trust these buses to carry our children to and from school. What is the BOE going to do about it and which bus company was it. As a patent I have the right to know. The bus company should be banned from Lakewood.
It is a well known fact that only 30 percent of busses pass on the first inspection 6 of 30 passed (30 days means they are safe)in this case
failing a state inspection means nothing, most state inspectors pass or fail inspections depending on their personality,or mood as in most govt dept all laws started off for a good reason and just got out of hand.(social security, unions, insp, dep, epa etc..)
no big deal . it was a random inspection . it couldve been anyone of many bus companies in the area
No big deal!!! Play with it own kids safety not mine. It’s either a violation or it is not.
You’ve never went to inspection and failed cause your windsheild wipers weren’t 100%. I have. Don’t be so hard to judge if you don’t know why they failed.
If my kids were riding that bus I wouldn’t care why it failed- windsheild wipers? There’s someone driving a bus with dozens of children on it, I want them to be able to see where they are going!
The fact that they avoided inspection says a lot about the bus company and their attention to the safety and well being of the children they drive.
it is a big “deal” your children ride those buses , I can’t beleive anyone would be willing to put the safety of their children at risk and then say itys no big deal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
School buses that fail inspection and are unsafe to operate are tagged and taken out of service, buses that fail for minor problems like an interior light burnt out or because a seat is ripped or has graffiti written on it stay in service and that is probably the kinds of things they failed for. A bus can even fail if it is not swept and there is too much sand or food wrappers on the floor. I’m sure that what ever they failed for was not so unsafe that they couldn’t put the buses back on the road. MVC inspectors could be fired and held liable if they allow an unsafe vehicle back on the road.
dont blame the messenger
i know which company because i sat for 15 minutes in taffic behind one of the pulled over buses. i dont know why they couldnt find a better place to pull over the bus than near the cederbridge / rt88 intersection
you all sound like 5 year olds
You all sound like idiots. All the Police were doing was getting the drivers info and nahding they a piece of paper with instructions to report to the Blue Claws Stadium. This took all of 5 minutes. You were not waiting in traffic for 15 minutes. And if they had cooperated with the state they would not have been targeted yesterday. The drivers were also instructed to report after their morning run not because the children are the first priority.
A bus could be put out of service if the first aid kit does not have a 100 band aids in it, meaning if the bus is out of service it does not neccessarily mean it is unsafe.
Better safe than sorry. We seem to be lacking in that capacity however.
I work in the school bus industry and if DMV pulls them off the road..that means they are unsafe !! To ell your employees over the radio NOT to come back to the terminal is most cerainly AVOIDING bus inspections ! This company is notorious for its infractions and must now pay the piper…..it is ALL ABOUT the safety of our children !!
