Lieutenant Greg Meyer Returns To Work, After Recovering From Gunshot Wound

lt_meyer_2 eLieutenant Gregory Meyer has returned to work with the Lakewood Police, after being off for several months with a foot injury resulting from the September ’09 shootout.  Lt. Meyer – with the Lakewood Police for approximately 25 years, and a good friend of the community – was shot in the foot during the raid, and has since undergone two surgeries after the bullet shattered a bone.

“I’m glad to be on my feet again and back at work with the men and women of LPD”, Lt. Meyer tells TLS.

Lt. Meyer was in command of the SWAT team that fateful night of September, when him and three other team members were shot during the raid on Mackenzie Court. He was rushed to Jersey Shore Medical Center where he underwent surgery and remained for three days.

About four months after his first surgery, Lt. Meyer returned to work temporarily, until he underwent a second surgery in April.

He has since received several awards for his heroic leadership and bravery for the raid, which nearly cost him his life.

Lt. Meyer has currently been assigned to desk duty until determined safe enough to return to the road.
