PHOTOS & VIDEO [UPDATED 6:20 PM] A man who got stuck on the roof of his home this afternoon, was resuced by the Lakewood Fire Department, Chaveirim and Hatzolah personnel.
The man had reportedly gone up to repair something on his roof, but was unable to descend.
Chaveirim brought in a ladder which was used by Hatzolah members to remain with the man on the roof until the Lakewood Fire Department arrived with the bucket truck.
About 20 minutes after the Fire Department’s arrival, the man was back on the ground.
Oh did the volunteer firefighters leave work or their homes to assist in another non fire incident,, yet no one volunteer’s a donation for these brave men and women
Really?? I send money to the LFD every year.
U sound old and grumpy there were over 25 volunteers from other organizations who left there home and familys and maybe 5 from fire …..
Bla bla bla in the good old days the department went from house to house for some reason they stopped,
Btw doesent LFD have paid members?
LFD has paid firefighter, two or three I think. Most all is volunteer. The one truck you see running the streets all the time is the paid man.
Lakewood paid fireman makes 85,000 a year plus benefits. All the firehouses are out of tax money. No donations needed.
Ok lets see …. bash the LFD but those of you who are doing so …. well may I ask when you are going to volunteer for the department ?
There are 6 paid men but they do not have the ladders that the Hook & Ladder have..they have ground ladders..but it is correct most of the firefighters in town are volunteers..and Yes some of them left work to come help, but some were already off work and on their way to do other things..24/7 365 In winter, summer, spring & fall..the lakewood volunteers do it all..for now
the firefighters are to be commended for their dedicated work. The yeshiva community has always supported the fire dept. with their hard earned taxes or donations through the mail. The reason they stopped going door to door was decided because it was more financially productive with a mail campaign
On behalf of the Association of the neighborhood where this took place, we’d like to thank the Lakewood Fire Department, Hatzolah, Chaverim, the (unnamed??) police officer, and the handyman from our neighborhood who rushed to the scene for their quick and courageous work this past Friday. This could have been a disaster, as the man who went up to his roof was in danger of heatstroke and was actually beginning to pass out up there, which is why his neighbors called for help initially. Had these brave citizens, yes, volunteers, not acted as quickly and smoothly as they did, there could have been a real tragedy. Thank you all for making Lakewood a safer place. Agendas and cynicism have no place here, these are hardworking men who were here to help. (In our humble opinion, the individuals who rushed to our neighborhood to catch a glimpse of the action would have done better staying home, but that is not the message of this post.) Again, a tremendous thank you for being here when the Lakewood residents need you.
