LFD Extinguishes Home Fire Which Started From Grill

PHOTOS & VIDEO [UPDATED] An out of control grill set a home on fire this afternoon. At about 5:15PM, police received a call that a grill had set fire to a deck of a 14th Street home. The deck fire quickly spread and caught on to the back of the home, according to a neighbor on scene.

Multiple fire companies responded after the fire department hit out for a General Alarm. The fire was brought under control several minutes after their arrival.

Lakewood EMS and Lakewood First Aid were dispatched as well.

The home suffered serious damage. Firefighter Joseph Mutterperl could be seen saving and bringing out hand-written Chiddushim (religious books) written by the homeowner. TLS.

  1. in this heat we have to give an extra thank you to lakewoods bravest. it is hard enough on a regular day, but today even more.

    THANK YOU Lakewood Fire Department

  2. Chiddushim are original usually hand written torah thought manuscripts.

This man already published numerous original books and
    I’m sure he’s written more.

Happy they saved them, its a life’s work.

  3. I HOPE IT WAS NOT A CHARCOAL GRILL BECAUSE COMMON SENSE TELLS YOU THAT THIS IS A NO NO ON A WOODEN DECK. IN FACT ALL TYPE S OF GRILLS SUCH AS PROPANE AND ELEC. SHOULD ALWAYS BE USED WITH GUARDED CARE AND NEVER LEFT UNATTENDED.

  4. Why is it that ppl can be so quick to judge.

Just because the fire is under control doesnt mean it is out. Also once it is out they have to check to make sure the fire doesnt spread.

Also when I asked the home owner what kind of damage there was he told me the firemen (who by the way did a increadable job of putting this fire out in this heat) went out of there way to cover his seforim so that they wouldn’t be damaged from they water.

and then of course is the clean up and inspection.

Don’t be so fast to judge and just say thank you.
