“It is with regret the Department announces the death of Exempt Member, Michael J. (Mike) Cook who passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024,” the Lakewood fire Department announced.

Michael J. Cook was appointed to Junior Hose Company No.3 of the Lakewood Fire Department on December 2nd, 1962, reaching the rank of Captain and President of the Fire Company before taking his exemptions (retiring) in May of 1990. He was also a member of the Lakewood Fireman’s Relief Association, the Lakewood Exempt Fireman’s Association and served with the United States Marine Corps.

Michael J. Cook is the father of past Chief of Department Robert D. (Bob) Cook and grandfather of Lieutenant Robert D. Cook II (E5).

Funeral service will be at the George S. Hasslers Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mill Road, Jackson, NJ on Friday August 16, 2024 from 1600 to 2000 hours with a fireman’s service at 1930 hours.

Interment will be Saturday August 17, 2024 at 1200 hours at the funeral home with a procession to the Woodlawn Cemetery for burial.
