[LETTER ATTACHED] A researcher in Germany is looking to get in touch with a Lakewood resident in hopes of returning Nazi-looted books taken from them during the second world war.
In a letter sent to the Lakewood Township, Nicole Bartels writes that she and colleague are in the midst of investigating the book library of Nazi-looted books which once belonged to people or institutions persecuted by the Nazis.
Depositied in the Palatine State Library were several books belonging to the family of Anna Mayer. One of her three children, Heinz (Henry) Mayer emigrated to the United States in 1939 and had a last known address in Lakewood of 407 Carey Street, the letter states.
“Henry Mayer and his siblings are the legal inheritors of the five books we have found here,” the letter states. “Therefore, we would like to find out where he or his family live today to contact them.”

Amazing!
That’s amazing I hope they find the people the books belong to !!!
Did you verify this isn’t a scam? Amazing if true.
There is no such address as 407 Carey. There is 409 but then comes rt 9.
i would suggest they ask Abe Penzer. His office is across the street and he is an old time Lakewooder.
theres a henry mayer that lives in freehold
i think 407 carey is an apt building
I currently live very close to that address and will try to contact some old time Lakewooders including some who used to live on that block.
there are 2 small apt building on Carey rt off Forest 409 and 407. 407 is the corner of Carey and Madison and definitely exist I lived there!
This may be him, but the immigration date does not match the one in the letter. He was born in Speyer and immigrated at age 19 in 1947 from Kent, England.

if you move to the next image https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-33857-4290-46?cc=1923888 you will see that he was coming to visit his cousin Rudolph Preis on 302 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn. This may or may not be him.
How about R. Shmuel Mayer’s father? He was a refugee from Germany and lived in Lakewood.
I already spoke to the family of Shmuel Mayer and they are not related.
