LETTER: Igud Hamosdos’ Letter to Parents to Vote Down Referendum

ballot schoolThe following is the contents of a letter being sent home to parents today, urging them to vote down the $6,200,000 referendum:

Dear parents, Please see below the Igud Hamosdos and Vaad’s request of the olam to vote no on the referendum, despite the likely loss of courtesy busing as a result of voting no.

Should the referendum pass the Public School District will still face a deficit from these past two years of some $12,000,000, with no plan for the future. The tax increase from the referendum will be a permanent one, continuing for many years, while it would fund courtesy busing for 4 months only. Next year courtesy busing will again be put on the chopping block – even if the referendum passes.

It is time for us to say to the state – enough is enough – we will not support YET ANOTHER CRUSHING tax increase. The state has taken over the district – while it severely underfunds Lakewood. IT THEN BLAMES THE VICTIM FOR ITS OWN INABILITY TO ACT RESPONSIBLY. It is time for the state to STEP UP TO THE PLATE WITH A PROPER LEVEL OF FAIR FUNDING AND AVERT A CRISES THAT WILL AFFECT THE SAFETY OF 10,000 CHILDREN. FIX THE FUNDING FORMULA NOW! There is no other practical solution for the district.

Polls are open between 2:00 – 9:00PM

  1. There is taxation without representation in the boe. Please everyone go out and vote NO. I know everyone will be out carpooling and picking up kids from schools. Polls hours are 2-9 this afternoon. Please make time in this madness of a snowy mess and vote. Every vote counts. The tls polls showed a 90 percent vote against the referendum. It doesn’t count unless you go out to vote to make it not pass.
