Dear Lakewood Scoop Readers,
I am a parent of 3 young children who was quite excited to be able to take them to a beautiful fireworks show, just as I did 2 years ago (the last time there was one, as you can see in the pic above.)
When they “postponed” this years show they said it will be done at a later date. As far as I know there has been no such announcement. Did anyone hear about when its reschedule for? when I drove by today I noticed the temporary fencing was already taken down.
Does anyone else wonder A) Do they even book a vendor anymore? B) If they do book a vendor does he get paid regardless? And C) If you’re not planning on providing the fireworks in the first place then just pull it from the budget!
As a side note, I think what’s more bothersome than just the fact that my children were very excited, especially this year that they “officially” added a drone show, is the lack of foresight. This is probably the only time (other than the night of safety) the Township can showcase a beautiful display of working side by side with and being there for the people by providing an enjoyable night out in honor of July 4th and our countries independence.
Why then are they so quick to turn around and not provide it and by doing so accomplishing the exact opposite by getting people upset?

Howell rescheduled already, Lakewood will reschedule for next year…It will then be canceled because
A: Rain.
B: Heat.
C: Storms a week before.
D: To large of a crowd.
E: (moderated)
F: 100 other reasons they may come up with
They seem to find any excuse to cancel. Last year they did same…
You feel like a very ungrateful parent. I don’t mean to be nasty, but this is a free event which you don’t even pay for (and don’t give me The excuse that you pay taxes because every other township also pay taxes and most places don’t do this ) And why can’t your children learn how to have disappointment in life.
I imagine they don’t pay in full, as they said that last year’s money would be applied to this year’s drone show (unless it was already paid, and they offered that).
About fireworks not taking place in most twps, I didn’t know that, I thought that if Heaven forbid we stop doing it, it would look unpatriotic and possibly a ch”H.
BTW, just go take a walk around the lake, you’ll feel like you’re in the country, will see many nice ducks and birds you don’t usually see. You may even see turtles sunning on logs, you’ll see some nice new playgrounds (put up as late as the end of last summer) etc.
Agree. The children were extremely disappointed. But, it’s the same reason that the only vehicle that isn’t climate controlled is a school bus. Sad. The children are the future.
I agree. They should have originally set a rain date from the beginning.
Also, my guess is that the township is probably paying a deposit, if not the entire full amount, non-refundable regardless.
Let’s try that again…
Dear Township,
Our family always enjoys the July 4th fireworks, and are really excited about the drone show. We were sad that it had to be postponed due to the heatwave, mass power outages, and thunderstorms. Please inform us when a rain date will be scheduled!
Thank you for providing this show every year for the benefit of the residents.
A Lakewood resident
I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for them to announce the rescheduled date…
My kids are devastated. They kept waiting for last year’s show to be rescheduled, but nothing happened. This year they were extra excited because of the drone show. We all know this won’t be rescheduled just like last year. So disappointing.
Seriously?!
Devastated?!
Did you read that before you clicked ‘post comment’?
Devastated?? First world problems, lady. I hope none of your “devastated” kids are ever mishadaich with anyone in my family! Feh
So at least you have what to cry about this Tisha biav as you sit on the floor.
Kafui Tov! Be thankful for what you have and stop trying to squeeze everything you can. The town is ran by very well meaning individuals. Although you’re questions are good and I don’t have answers I’m sure there explanations…
So this has been on your mind. Wow! Call the township and ask.
Dear Lakewoop Scoop,
Didnt we decide that for the three weeks we will not have any posts about complaints etc?
Thank you
who decided?
Maybe start with the adults not complaining about meaningless things and then we can work on influencing the children.
I was also disappointed, however I believe that this year it will be rescheduled, hopefully really soon. I was upset when the memorial day parade was canceled & I asked about this years fireworks & the mayor said it will be rescheduled should it rain. Thank you Mr. Mayor for your assurance & looking forward!
Can you please follow up with TLS when you have an update? I’m quite skeptical tbh…
It’s tough to bring up kids these days . . .
Bored people seriously
Yes i can be disappointing but how about focus on the good instead. There was a big storm, the damage could have been WAY worse. Canceled light show should be the biggest of our problems. Thank you Hashem!
money is no object in this town , they just installed a few expensive emergency buttons on the floating bridge, because it must of been a very dangerous area LOL, this town is joke they keep wasting our tax money and it will continue until we demand change
There are fireworks every Wednesday in Seaside. Check the calendar of events for more details.
To Chaim, must HAVE! Why do people post without checking spelling, grammar, etc.? Your lack of proper education doesn’t need to be so obvious.
I was not going to comment, but I can’t believe no one mentioned what the report about the cancellation initially said. They specifically mentioned that they need personnel to help out due to the storm, and since there were people without power for quite a while, it’s quite inconsiderate to complain about your fireworks show. BH I was not one of those people, but I feel for them.
