Letter: Chairman Holman, GOP Leadership Cannot Continue Hiding from Hate Within His Own Party

By Tobiah Wechsler. It has been over one month since hate and anti-Semitism within the Jackson Township Republican Party has gone unchecked locally. With top Republican leaders in the country strongly condemning hate including President Donald J. Trump, the GOP, Congressman Chris Smith, our own state Senator Robert Singer and the state GOP Chairman Doug Steinhardt, locally the silence is deafening.

One month later, nothing has changed. In fact, things have gotten worse as Jackson Republican and USDA Farm service executive Director Barry Calogero and Mayor Michael Reina have now gone after those calling out hate and anti-semitism. Just last week, Calogero, who ironically was appointed to his political job by President Trump has gone off the deep end. Calogero led the charge to silence councilman Ken Bressi and strip the defender of right and wrong from ALL of his township duties but one. This decorated vietnam war veteran stood up and spoke the truth. For that, his decades long commitment to serving our community and our country have been stripped away by the peddlers of hate.

Where is GOP chairman Frank Holman while Jackson burns? Hunting out of state. He’s a no-show and he has demonstrated his ineffectiveness to be a true leader of ALL of the people of Ocean County. Now, Calogero and Reina have sent a strong message to anyone who speaks the truth, do so at your own risk, or else. These bully tactics border on witness intimidation and tampering. Still, Clara Glory holds her spots on the Jackson MUA, Jackson GOP and even works in Assemblyman Ron Dancer’s office. Dancer has also been quiet as a mouse about his employee’s social media hate. The OC GOP and Jackson GOP have gotten away with their anti-Semitism, but with lawsuits against them piling up, how much more will they hurt their own taxpayers with these unnecessary and costly legal battles.

It was learned that on December 18th, the Ocean County GOP and Jackson GOP held a meeting to discuss what is going on in Jackson. Chairman Holman apparently and secretly urged the Keystone Cops in Jackson to change their direction, but they did not listen. A deal was made between Holman and the Jackson GOP to begin fixing the horrible track record of the planning board in Jackson but appointing a new attorney with real experience in land use and religious land use law, Robert Shea. It was agreed that Shea would replace another Holman friend, Greg McGuckin, but in the end, Reina’s regime spat in Holman’s face and appointed a lawyer out of their good old boy network black book.

Most of that meeting to move forward ended up with Todd Porter, Clara Glory and Mike Reina bashing Ken Bressi for his deposition and they hashed out a plan to punish Bressi…Holman, Shea and McGuckin could only sit and watch in the basement of the swank Italian restaurant Villa Amalfi in Toms River and watch the circus.

Then, Holman left the state and went hunting leaving the inmates to continue running the asylum in Jackson.

Holman needs to resign. Everyone in the county knows he doesn’t want the responsibility that comes with being a county chairman. He just wanted the title because he wanted to take it away from George Gilmore, nothing else. He’s destroying a once great and strong party, it’s falling apart. Rome is burning as Nero fiddles. Not only is Holman an ineffectual leader, he’s worthless in a time of crisis.

It’s time for the TRUE Republican party leaders to stand up against hate, stand up against inaction and take action to make sure Lakewood, Jackson and Toms River do not become the next Monsey or Jersey City. Take action before the actions of others cause serious harm, or worse, even death in our community.

Chairman Holman, take your head out of the sand, or move aside and let somebody who is not afraid to be a TRUE leader take over. Stop letting our great county be reflected upon nationally by the actions of the out of control Jackson GOP.

  1. Did Chris Smith and Robert Singer “condemn hate” “in general”? Did they specifically refer to what is going on in Jackson? If yes, please post a statement and video. How about our Republican assemblyman and county officials??
