I would like to publicize a story that happened to me on Sunday morning around 10:30 am.
I was traveling below the speed limit on Squankum Road towards Lakewood. I passed a marked Howell Police officer. Surprisingly, he proceeded to stop me and pull me over.
The officer came to my car and informed me that he was stopping me because it looked like I was holding a phone to my ear. I knew that I hadn’t been.
It then occurred to me that I had been biting my nail (a bad habit) and from his angle it looked like I had been holding my phone. I proceeded to show him my bit finger as evidence to my story, as well as my phone which had no call activity.
To the officer’s credit, he was open minded to let go of his original assumptions, and let me go with a warning but no ticket. I was very impressed with the professionalism and fairness on display by the Howell police officer.

Could you write a letter about how is once sneezed.
What was the warning? Stop biting your nails while driving?
weirds story
Thank you for publicizing credit where credit is due.
We right away get into action when a wrong has been done, we have to acknowledge a correct action too.
What a boring story.
I got a warning on squanqum for going 66 some police officers are very decent people and deserve our respect!
Nice of him
Funny. I had a similar experience but my finger was actually in my ear!
I am always scared to put anything near my head / or raise my hands above the steering wheel because of this fear
what was the warning? thats ridiculious. whats the point of this story? what would of happened if u were scratching ur ears, what would u have showed him?
I’m always nervous to put my hand near my face when driving because they can say I’m on the phone
Yeah, can’t eat or drink or groom. I guess nail biting is a form of grooming. Warning in place.
The shame is that he pulled you over without having really seen an infraction. As is plainly clear it is difficult to tell if someone is using a phone and unless he has clear evidence it was wrong to pull you over.
If you are a man this story is weird, if you are a woman the story is even more weird. The cop is right for letting you go but it was probably more about the call history on the phone not you showing him your finger.
boring
#12–Where’s that law?
Can anybody post some sort of answer as to why Howell Police pull cars over in Lakewood? Isn’t it out of there jurisdiction? I don’t see any Lakewood Police Officers pulling anybody over in Howell
i also had a nice encounter with howell police recently.
i saw a police SUV behind me so i went over to the right lane and i forgot to use a blinker (that is what they said honestly i was to nervous with them behind me to remember) and they only gave me a written warning
