My Shabbos Family: Giving begins in our homes and in our hometowns

For Eli, a donor, My Shabbos Family is more than just an organization, but a cause that is close to his heart.

“It’s not easy to be on the receiving side of other’s generosity, and there’s a certain humiliation that comes with it. But it’s even harder to go hungry at night! It’s even harder to keep Shabbos on an empty stomach. That’s why My Shabbos family means so much to me. Because they solve both.”

“I have never been given the nisayon of not having enough food for Shabbos, so I can’t say I understand what some of my neighbors are going through. But for me, the awareness grew when I stepped into a neighbor’s house one Shabbos. Embarrassed, my neighbor apologized for not offering me anything to eat. ‘We have a little challah, but not much else,’ he said.”

“I truly believe what My Shabbos Family stands for, and what they do, is something special. Chazal say that we focus on giving our city first, and knowing that my donation goes straight to my neighbor, someone in my community b’derech kavod, and with respect? It brings me genuine joy on shabbos too.”
