State civil rights officials said today they’ve resolved two discrimination complaints brought against an Ocean County condominium complex for seniors. Both cases involved residents with medical issues who claimed the Leisure Village East Association of Lakewood failed to accommodate their needs. Under one settlement announced today, the association paid $24,000 to a former resident who wanted her parking space moved closer to her unit. That request was rejected, even though her doctor said it was medically warranted.

The association also agreed to accommodate a current resident by replacing its shuttle bus with one equipped with a step that can be lowered.

The association also has paid $6,000 to the state Civil Rights Division. AP
