Lavallette Borough official on Lifeguard’s bigoted comment: “Appropriate administrative action was taken”

Administrative action was taken with regards to the incident involving a lifeguard’s bigoted comment.

After bringing the incident to light, a Lavallette Borough official reached out to TLS in an effort to conduct an investigation into Alex Adamek’s comments.

This week, the official provided the following statement.

“The Borough of Lavallette took this matter very seriously and conducted a thorough review. Upon completion of the review, appropriate administrative action was taken. Due to prevailing employment laws, we cannot make specific comment on the exact course of action taken with regards to this employee, but I can let you know that the borough will be examining it’s overall cultural diversity training program for all employees. Generally speaking regarding all allegations of misconduct against any employee, we must consider such things as whether an offense took place while the employee was working for the borough and whether the employee was protected by any constitutional rights at the time (such as free speech, freedom to assemble, etc.).”

  1. In other words he is still employed with them as a lifeguard. Don’t give freedom of speech as an excuse for not firing him. You can fire someone for not liking the color purple. And you can fire someone for having views that you disagree with (provided that you are not discriminating against that employee’s race, religion or color.

  2. Honestly it was just a kid, cut him some slack and show forgiveness. He’s ignorant in his way of thinking, maybe if we show civility and politeness make sure we pick up after ourselves when going into goy areas hey will see that we aren’t all bad, we can all live together peacefully with some work on both sides.
