Police needed to call for mutual aid from neighboring townships after a large brawl broke out in Lakewood Saturday night, police say.
The brawl broke out at a basketball game at the Community Center on 4th Street, police say.
Upon arrival, Lakewood Police called for mutual aid from Howell, Brick and Toms River Police Departments to help control the large crowds. K9 dogs were brought in as well.
Nobody was injured at that brawl, but after the crowds dispersed, police received a call about at least one person pepper sprayed in the area of Martin Luther King Drive, police said. The incident is said to have been a fallout of the 4th Street fight.
Both incidents remain under investigation.

no need to keep saying “police say/said”…..
Well that’s where their getting the info from.
@moshe actually I like when TLS says “police say/said”, I say. Can’t believe that bothered you enough to comment about, I say.
Some things never change, just the players. And a murder at a concert, I sure don’t miss any of this stuff. Good luck LPD.
There was no “brawl” at the center. The pepper spray incident had nothing to do with the game. Police were there the whole day. Other towns came in for “presence” because of what happened the night before
