Neighbors reported that a family recently moved into Westgate from Asbury Park. This new family held wild parties with blaring music, shouting and the use of illegal substances. The terrified neighbors who lived in the same apartment building reached out to the the Westgate Management and likewise were ignored.
Events came to a head on Sunday night when a party reportedly spiraled out of control. A suspect from the home on Hillside Ave. reportedly chased another party goer with a gun.
As the victim attempted to flee the suspect reportedly fired into the victim’s vehicle striking the victim twice. The victim then fled to the Hospital where medical personnel then called law enforcement. The victim, not wishing to incriminate his friend then fabricated a story “of being lost on his way to Toms River when he was shot at by an unknown assailant.”
Dozens of law enforcement members combed the area of Westgate late into the night combing the area for clues. Hours later the true story emerged. Needless to say the neighbors were terrified to go to sleep with the armed suspect at large.
In response to the shooting, the Rabbonim of Westgate, as well as local Askainim, formed a new action committee called “IGGUD WESTGATE” The Iggud’s mission is to provide a voice for the over one thousand families living in Westgate.
The Iggud will advocate for the needs of Lakewood’s largest community at both at the local and state level governments. The Iggud reports an estimated 3000 eligible voters in Westgate. They aim to create a powerful voting block to ensure the safety and vibrancy of their neighborhood.
Huh?
Kol hakavod!! There’s power in numbers! Baruch Hashem, finally!
Unfortunately as a Westgate resident, as long as you are someone that management feels will make them a profit they will rent them an apartment. There are tenants smoking weed in front of my children, we have all types here. It’s about time that we get together and decide who rents and who shouldn’t.
I thought people from the Jewish community only lived in here ? Honest question..
It’s about 98% Jewish.
Not anymore. I would say the rental are about 66% Jewish at this point.
Well not for nothing good, one type of religion shouldn’t be the only to live in the neighborhood. But no community should deal with such non sense .
Sounds like some Askanim wanabees found a way to make themselves sound relevant.
In response to a shooting you’re doing what?!? Forming an Igud that will do what? Go to the state with a 3k strong voter block? To do what?
Do you realize that a single shooting in a community with 1000 families is literally going to be laughed at so hard?
Unless this igud can vet who gets to move into Westgate, it shouldn’t claim its in response to anything. Just a bunch of Askanim wanabees. Just show up to the events and get your pictures taken. No need to tell everyone you’re going to do something when you won’t be accomplishing anything.
Well said 👍👍👍👍
Have they gotten the shooter arrested? Have they been hand picked, or only endorsed by the rabbonim? If safety is the concern, why not expand an existing resource called shomrim with a dedicated west gate division? Have Lakewood police run extra patrols within the neighborhood?
if you really want something done very quickly, all needs to be done is to post the name of the landlord and head manager, he will be dead embarrassed to continue doing the same.
If they use the 3000 votes for local township elections, they can make a change. On a state level they are irrelevant and shows the ignorance of these “askanim”.
Oy
Heliga vest gate
Vus tutzach up..
The only thing that talks to westgate owners/managers are lawsuits. Get a lawyer, and sue them for having unsafe people living with guns and shooting at friends right in your building. Trust me, I lived there for years. There aint noone home to talk to, unless you get a lawyer involved.
Unfortunately, you may be right. Look how low we sunk.
Can they make a safe crosswalk across Hillside by the shopping center? It’s dangerous to cross if cars don’t stop for pedestrians. Thank you.
100% I agree with you.
Maybe we need to call the Lakewood Police Dept. and they have an office that handles such similar issues, traffic related.
Good Shabbos to everyone
