Lakewood’s ‘Cut’ Of The Deal

christie's cuts for lakewood_wm(Click on image to enlarge) This week, the state released state aid figures that has many school districts looking at cuts of 40-, 50- or even 100 percent, as reported in here on TLS from the Star Ledger. The cuts were included in Gov. Chris Christie’s proposed state budget that would spend $820 million less on public schools next year. Each of the state’s nearly 600 districts saw reductions of aid equal to about 5 percent of their current budgets.

Very good- the government should start acting like normal, regular people more often- When you are in debt then you cut back. It’s simple.

Cut the BOE budget!!! Strip it down! No extra curricular courses and make the district teachers pay for their cadillac benefits

Mr Don’t know – ok so how about the parents of private school children stop paying the portion of the property taxes that go to the public schools and the private schools will gladly pay for their own busing !! Do we have a deal. Until then – look who is paying the BULK of the property taxes in Lakewood who pay for everything the public schools have – including the busing.

#7 that’s the choice people make who send their children to private schools. Its the same in every town except for Lakewood. The truth is the bussing would not be such a contentious issue if there were not such an insanely large number of private schools in town. Look at the senior population who also pay school taxes and get nothing in return. He people of Lakewood need to stop being so selfish. You chose to move here, no one forced you so pay what your supposed to.

19,000 plus students are bused according to the newsletter that the school just sent to everyone in Lakewood. 5,000 students are enrolled in public school, many obviously walk. SO who is getting on those buses, not all are reimbursed by the state. Let’s let the parents deal with getting their children to school if they don’t qualify for busing, oh wait, parents don’t have time to take the responsibility for their students.
to #6 let;s cut out the lawyer and administrators!

Look, we all know that money is being pocketed somewhere. Don’t forget that taxes are everyone’s problems. If all the private school students attended public schools, the walls would bust. Let’s sit down and talk like mature adults. All children are entitled to an education. Thank you for listening.

How if the state is giving Lakewood 22 Million dollars this town is still in financial crisis? Dont we have a 56 MIllion dollar budget and this town cant handle the remaining balance, Talk about money going in someones pocket? I really hope someone from the federal government makes there way into this town and uncovers what is going on.

why don’t you look at the the waste. How many people abuse the government problems? If we all do our share, then any problem could be solved!! We are all people who are neighbors. How does this behavior look to the children?

how about not giving FREE education to undocumented immigrant families who dont pay taxes and are not LEGALY here.

IF we the Jewish Community who do pay taxes lose our bussing lets just flood the Public Schools with all our Children and then they will be beggign us to leave and willfully givie us bussing and maybe even free tution via vouchers.

I heard Gov Chrisite speak today and he is going after the teachers union who collect $120,000,000.00 a year in dues. What do the teachers get for that? Nothing. Who stopped 400 million in aid for schools. The teachers union who dont want vouchers or charter schools.

But please dont threaten our bussing or we may sign up all our children for public school and that will bankcrupt the entire BOE.
We save the BOE over $6-7,000 per child by sending them to our private schools which costs us between $3500-5000 per elem child compared to about $11,000 per child in the public school system. Could you imagine our tax rate if we flooded another 15,000 children intot he system today. All the building that would need to go up over night. And then how about the BOE having more members from the Jewish Community.

The VAQAD was right Corzine wouldv’e just continued his disastorous management of this state. Give Christie a year or two and you will see BIG benefits.

Ok – So all private school students will enroll in the public school system – since this is something they are entitled to, but chose not to take part in – this will include busing, teachers, principals, more school buildings, athletic fields etc. And lets not forget all the overhead for “Administrators” and assistants. What will YOUR taxes look like – yes – the fact that there are so many children in private schools are keeping the property taxes DOWN. So please stop complaining about the busing.

Okay send them to public schools. When I was growing up in Lakewood all my jewish friends went to public school and at night went to hebrew school. Whats the problem now?

We want to keep the taxes down – other wise we would have NO issue sending them to the Lakewood public schools. Oh I forgot another expense – security and metal detectors.

Anonymous

how are you keeping taxes down? Yes security because public school children are not allowed to drink and smoke unlike private schools in lakewood. It’s the law you have to be 21

anonymous 2

Do you know how little lakewood teachers get paid? Go and look at other districts and you will see how high other levels are!!! How about other higher administrators? Are they really necessary? I know that you have all the answers. Then express your ideas!!!!

last i checked the private schools didn’t have to have the police there because of student rioting or gang related drugs/violence.
