PHOTOS: A new game will soon be hitting local toy stores. Lakewoodopoly, developed by two Lakewood women to raise funds for Mekor Hachinuch, is like your childhood Monopoly game, only, featuring Lakewood businesses. So instead of landing on Baltic Avenue or Oriental Avenue, you’ll be landing at Madison Title, Gefen Optical, Kosher West, the Lakewood Shopper, Glatt Bite and on other Lakewood businesses.
And instead of a horses, iron and car, you will have a Shtender, School bus, baby carriage and Siddur.
The proceeds of the game, will be benefiting Mekor Hachinuch.
Mekor Hachinuch – Established in 2002 – is a Lakewood community program servicing both boys and girls schools, with individualized classes. The classes give small groups of students the educational system they need, while allowing them to remain in the mainstream Yeshiva system.
The game is expected to hit Toys For Thought and other toy stores, this week.
(For wholesale, you can contact 732-905-9573). TLS-PR.
The game was sold this past week at bagel nosh! It’s very well put together, very impressive
just curious– is this legal? did u have to get special permission from Monopoly?
Don’t worry there’s a law office and no “Go To Jail”.
It looks like it is legal cause it looks like its a drop different in order not to do anything copyrighted
Very cool game!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope to go to Toys for thought tom.
My shvogger told me that its a chosheva game and it looks like a lot of fun, the shailah is if its too much fun to play with on the Yoim Hadin!!! Also, my relative is part of this program and it is an amazing thing, one of Lakewoods best kept secrets!!
Our family played this game over Shabbos. It is really exciting, even more fun than the original, because they identify with the entire board. It is an ingenius way for advertisers to really get the most bang for their buck, and most of all, it assists a great and underappreciated mosad Hachinuch in Lakewood.
Great idea!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sure it will sell out, Its about time our precious children are playing with Yiddisha games and to support tzedaka at the same time is a Win Win
mekor hachinuch led by Mrs schleisnger and Mrs schmell and the great staff as Rabbi Tesser and Rabbi lewin hatzolocha
How much does it cost?
SOO ILLEGAL,
No doubt that this is illegal and monoply manufacture will fight it in court. Same As McFleishigs in boro park. They had to change their name but in the meantime they get huge publicity from the lawsuit itself.
This is not new. We have had this game for many years. I hope these people who “invented” this version don’t get sued for copyright infringement.
Why do people jump to conclusions? How do you know they didn’t get permission? Besides, what’s the point of expressing that opinion here on this forum. If you are concerned, why not speak to the creators of the game and find out the truth for yourself. Otherwise such comments just spread negativity.
why is there no center of town? its just a lakewood landmark as bagel nosh.
Are the houses owned by slumlords? Are they rented to low-life like in real life? Is the board covered with toys and high grass like in Lakewood? Just asking.
how much is it annd who sells it
Response to: Who says it’s illegal? There is no question in my mind. Proctor and gamble would never allow a private citizen or even a non for profit to use their idea. They are too big to deal with a local community organization who will sell a few thousand games(in the best case scenario). There is such a thing as buying off the rights to use an idea but it can be very costly. Legal fees and usage rights.
Bagel Nosh was selling it for $23
I spoke to the one who made it,it is NOT ILLEGAL,there are hundreds of similar games out there and this is NOT a problem as they changed what they had to.
In regular monopoly you can only shtup 4 houses in one property. I hope that in this game they allow at least 8 townhouses on each! and when you have 8 you can build a school.
Is there a spanish version?
to #17 – you mean Parker Bros. Proctor and Gamble doesn’t make games. They make cleaning products.
Ahhh…
The wonders of people like sechelhayashar…
Being dan l’kaf zechus before the Yemei Hadin…
Way to go; you are a breath of stale air…
Yes. I meant parker brothers. Sorry.
We bought it and had a great time playing it.
For those interested this is a legally licensed version of Monopoly. The stores that are in it paid for the sponsorship to this exceptional Mosad.
I as well just spoke with the founders of Mekor Hachinuch. The company that produced this game dealt with the makers of Monopoly to ensure there is no copyright infringement. So “sechelhayashar” (incredulous name), go and say selichos with utmost kavanah.
Can you request a variance to build more houses then usual?
#28
Just need the right lawyer but that will cost you $200 and do not pass Go!
Take a ride on Blue Comet Express!
Eh RebRambo, I do not like people that come around and waive the “enlightened” finger based on hairsay…
If it is true what you are saying, shouldn’t there have been some kind of licence# on the back, or some kind of disclaimer from HasBro that this game was made with their permission? “Made in China” was all I found…
I am not saying this game was made with or without infringement, what I am implying is that Pesi Yaamin Lechol Davar..
My kids had a great time playing it last night and we couldn’t get them to sleep. I heard that so many stores who were approached and didn’t sponsor a spot are kicking themselves!
Apparently many commentators are still playing with rattles.
I bought one already! What a great idea! Keep it MK and R’ YM !!
There is no such thing as Investors Savings Bank!!!!
Can’t wait to get it!
Can those businesses that didn’t invest in this game , maybe do so in the next edition?
Anyone can make their own version of Monopoly provided they avoid the copyrighted items related to the game.
What is copyrighted? The name Monopoly. The four corners. The railroad icons. The utility icons. The color stripe at the top of each property. The text and images on the Chance and Community Chest cards. Chance and Community Chest. The names of the properties. The rules. Starting to get the picture? The better question is what is not copyrighted. -opoly is not. 40 spaces on the board isn’t. Color groups are not. Check out any -opoly game by Late for the Sky and you’ll see exactly what you can do. You can also buy the kit to make your own version of monopoly.
I propose that someone create a Driveopoly game based on Lakewood. The board would consist of Lakewood streets and intersections You could buy the streets and intersections and then buy red lights, stop signs parking spaces and pedestrian crosswalks to put on you properties . You can then charge for running red lights and stop signs, Ilegal parking and failure to stop for a pedrestrian You drawing cards could consist of Go to Municipal Court with different violations on each card ,A Free Lawyer Card and of course the Go To Jail Card. The game pieces could be dented mini vans. Who knows, maybe if enough people bought and played the game, driving would improve in Lakewood
Is there going to be a tent city place on the board as well? what about people living along railroad avenue? or how about a muster zone with hundreds of bicycles chained up to telephone poles.
