Lakewood Woman Devastated after Pit Bull Mauls her Pet to Death in Front of her

pit bulls and policeA Lakewood resident tells TLS she is extremely distraught after a loose pit bull mauled her pet in front of her home this week.

“On Sunday night, our beautiful, gentle cat was sitting in our (Raintree home) driveway with us and a big mean pit bull came and killed our cat right in front of us,” the woman says.

The woman says they attempted to fight off the dog using a hose, but to no avail.

“We had the hose on the dogs face full force and we were very afraid of it.”

Police responded, but unfortunately it was too late for the poor cat.

“The police came they had their guns drawn, they did not fire as the dog tossed my cats dead body around.”

“We are beyond devastated by this,” the woman said, “to see our Willie torn apart in front of us and there was nothing we could do.”

Animal Control also responded and removed the dog from the area.

In recent weeks, police received several calls about loose pit bulls, officials say, though information any other such incidents were not immediately available.

Last year, a loose pit bull mauled two cats in the same area, though it’s unknown if the incidents are related.

  1. These dogs should not be allowed to roam loose in our neighborhoods, they must be leashed and muzzles on their teeth -or beteethed? –
What a horrible story – i am truly sorry for the trauma this caused you.

  2. The dogs aren’t allowed to roam loose, they are either wild or got loose.

They will be killed after they are caught, they are put down after animal control takes them.

  3. a pit bull lives on our street n we are afraid for our kids. where i come from pit bulls are illegal, should b the law herre too, n fast b4 someone gets hurt.

  4. I will leash my pitbull but I will not muzzle him..he is well behaved and a valued member of my family. Any dog can be vicious if treated poorly. Please don’t put all Pitbulls in the same category. It is those people that choose to let them roam loose that make it sound like they are all a bad breed. Don’t Judge what you half know.

  5. Isn’t it odd that it is always the pit bull owners defending their dogs?? if you have to defend them so often then obviously there is a problem.
If you want a dog get one that is small sweet and docile. Not one that can tear a child to peices, if it so wishes.

  6. You should not be afraid of pit bulls, nor should they be banned. My pit bull is a total sweetheart who loves to give kisses. Now she is always leashed I would never allow her to just roam around. But please do not blame the dog, blame the owner! The dog should not be left alone and that poor cat should not have suffered because of some persons neglect.

  7. Mr.Anon I don’t understand how you could have pitbull as pet to begin with. It is a fighter dog and its known to be more vicious then other dogs. And yes if you are out with your dog, even as you say, it’s well behaved, people tend to be scared. So you should put muzzel. And you right it is the people who owns them are at fault, but you never know, may be they also thought that there’s dog well behaved….

  8. i sorry I own 2 wonderful pit bulls and had them as puppies and they are not vicious . It all depends on who the owners are for pit bulls . And my dogs are well trained wouldn’t hurt a fly . Once again it’s how the owner trains them blam the owner not the breed

  9. i quote: “The total ban on pit bulls is not grossly disproportionate in light of the evidence that pit bulls have a tendency to be unpredictable and that even apparently docile pit bulls may attack without warning or provocation.”

  10. Pk why do you bash pitbulls pitbulls are one of the greater dogs there are in the dog world… there not vicious they are great animals…. learn about a animal before judge…get a small dog.? Why so a stray cat can kill my dog.? I’m good…and no I do not have a pit bull my dog would kill a pitbull with ease if taunted… why not just show compassion for the family that watched there pet get killed ,,, any dog would have attacked a loose cat and put in work on that animal… pitbulls are wonderful dogs not fighters by nature they love to be part of a pack aka your family. .. anyway #thebossthatiam

  11. You raise a pitbull to be friendly they will be friendly. You raise a pitpull to be agressive they will be agressive. This comments sicken me. I wonder if those who want pitbulls put down also dont like the death penalty.

  12. these comments are laughable. No pittbulls shouldn’t be banned. They are beautiful animals. They will be what you raise them to be just like all of your children. Fear for your children? Then don’t leave them unsupervised outdoors period. What a large group of cowards you all are.

  13. I have a pitbull, maltipoo and 2 cats who all love each other. All dogs can be dangerous it’s all about how they are raised and my nala is a big love bug. She loves to give and receive love from all.

  14. I used to think, based on these stories, that pit bulls were all nasty animals. Then I started managing a property in Brooklyn. Some of the tenants have pit bulls. They are the nicest, sweetest, calmest dogs. The pit bulls u read about were trained to fight. The owners turn them into fighters. Thats a fact.

  15. Try to look up “pit bull” on the American Kennel CLub website. You can’t. Pit bull is not a breed. American Staffordshire Terrier is, however, and is one of many breeds that falls under the generic term “pit bull.” That’s the first misconception. The second misconception is that they are bred to be killers. Did you know that many of the dogs that fall under the term “pit bull” were once known as the “nanny” dogs? Wanna guess why? Nefarious breeders and owners took a natural trait inherent in these breeds and bred and trained them to fight. They are not naturally like that, which is why there are so many owners defending their dogs, because they know firsthand how wonderful they are to have as loving members of the family. I will ashamedly admit that I was once skeptical of any dog that was a “Pittie.” I now know better because I now have one. We got him from the shelter. There was a poster there that gave a run down on about 12-15 breeds of dogs and how they did on temperament tests. Guess which one was #1? The American Staffordshire Terrier, AmStaff for short, aka pit bull terrier. Which were at the bottom of the list? Quite a few of the small breeds someone above suggested one get instead of a big killer dog! Pitties are popular right now because they really are such great dogs. With popularity comes numbers. With numbers there will always be a bad apple, although if one were to really study the life of a “bad” dog, you might just see that it was misunderstood. Back when I was a teen, Rottweilers and Dobermans were targets of vicious labels. Why do you not hear about them now? They are not as popular therefore not a lot of people own them. I’ve owned 7 dogs in my lifetime. I’ve lived around countless others. The dogs that I personally knew that bit people were either A) provoked, B) scared, or C) not understood. The C reason, was because the owner didn’t understand that the dog had a “personal space bubble” around their face when it came to strangers. Some dogs don’t like small animals. Some don’t like small children. Some, like one of my last dogs, was uncomfortable with large groups of people milling about at a party because she naturally wanted to herd them into a group. Some dogs are incredible escape artists despite their owner’s best efforts. I’ve seen hidden camera video. You cannot always blame the owner, you cannot always blame the dog. To suggest that all pit bulls be killed is asinine. It’s like saying all (insert any ethnicity) should get the death penalty because one of them in the demographic was a murderer. I’m terribly sorry for the loss of the family’s beloved cat. But until all the details are known, including the dog’s particular triggers or the owner’s training, you cannot make blanket assumptions.

  16. So its ok to let your kids play on train tracks and run after the train when they see it but its not ok for your neighbor to own a pitbull., please explain the logic.

  17. I have a fabulous loving lap cat that I was about to take to a shelter due to family allergies. I would love to re-home him to this family if they want him. I’d rather not take him to the shelter. He’s 9 years old.

  18. Every case I’ve ever read in which a child or adult was seriously injured or killed involved a pit bull. Why do men own them? They are to compensate for small physical attributes. Just as a Hummer vehicle is a compensation vehicle. A bite by another breed is nowhere as serious as a bite by a pit bull. Would society survive without them? Of course it would.

  19. It is incredibly sad to know of so many ignorant people. “Kill all pit bulls”? What kind of moronic response is that?!?! I know many many people who are PitBull owners. First of all a dog is trained or raised to be viscous. ANY DOG can be violent. If you go back in history, you will see that every other decade there was a different breed being called “mobsters” “violent” and society claiming that they should all be killed. Right now it is the Pitts turn, sadly! I know ppl who have Pitts that are loveable kind, gentle animals. I also know ppl who have Chihuahuas who never shut up and have barked insanely and wanted to bite a child nearby. So, should they all be killed too? I have been bitten by a Doberman who was very aggressive, even I don’t feel that very dog should have been killed. Ultimately, a dog is going to have the temperament that the owner raises it to have. Period! People, learn more about what your talking about before saying such moronic, ignorant things.

  20. Y’all sound ridiculous it’s animal nature .. My jack Russel terrier would have done the same exact thing! Any dog can be aggressive not just pit bulls get away from the stereotypes it was a cat.. Had it been a child or something then yea be mad but it was a cat … And one dog doesn’t speak for every dog because there are more Pitts that protect rather than destroy… Get educated about them.. don’t just hop on the bandwagon
