Eliyahu Berger, a lifelong Lakewood resident and active volunteer firefighter, has announced his candidacy for Fire Commissioner in the upcoming Lakewood Fire District election.
“For the past five years, I’ve had the honor of serving as a volunteer firefighter with the Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department,” Berger said. “I’ve worked alongside an incredible team of men and women who put their community first every single day.”
Berger, who also operates a local business in Lakewood, said his dual experience as both a firefighter and entrepreneur has shaped his approach to leadership. “Running a business has taught me the importance of fiscal responsibility, efficient management, and accountability — values I will bring to the Fire District,” he noted.
If elected, Berger says his priorities will center on safety, responsible spending, and volunteer support. “My goal is simple: to make Lakewood a safer, better-prepared community while maintaining responsible spending and protecting the interests of our taxpayers,” he said.
Among his key objectives, Berger emphasized supporting firefighters with the necessary “tools, training, and resources,” managing budgets wisely, and strengthening the department’s volunteer base through recruitment and outreach programs.
“I believe in a future where our fire department continues to grow alongside our town — strong, efficient, and rooted in service,” Berger added. “It would be my honor to continue serving Lakewood in this expanded capacity.”
The Lakewood Fire Commissioner election will determine who helps oversee the district’s operations, budget, and long-term planning. Berger concluded his announcement with a message to residents: “I respectfully ask for your support and your vote in the upcoming election for Fire Commissioner.”
