“The Lakewood Vaad, representing the greater Lakewood Kehila, applauds the efforts of NJ Attorney General Gubir S. Grewal condemning the hate-filled anti-Semitic website Rise Up Ocean Country (RUOC),” Rabbi Moshe Zev Weisberg said today.
As earlier reported, the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights wrote a forceful letter to reminding Facebook of their responsibility to monitor the site regularly for hate speech and incitement to criminal activity.
“RUOC was created a Jew-bashing platform that was evil from its founding roots,” says Rabbi Weisberg. “Using the modern tools of social media, they largely hide behind their keyboards with a façade of anonymity. Their sole mission to collect disparaging stories about Jews, mostly Orthodox and from the Lakewood area, and paint them with a false broad brush in the style of classic anti-Semitic haters. Many of RUOC’s dedicated followers, salivating at every negative and often fake-news tidbit, then post their “comments” which spew even more hate, sometimes including incitement to actual violence.
He added, “We appeal to Facebook to take the Attorney General’s appeal seriously and shut down this abomination once and for all.”
