Can we suggest widening Cross st and Hope Chapel? with all the developments in the prospect area, widening those streets will help alleviate traffic before it gets horrific.
please everybody!! getting them to widen the nine will not happen, its too expensive to get approved.
Instead, if we get them to allow the green lights on the 9 at central and pine to stay green longer it will help dramatically!!
Its free and all i am asking them to do is to try it and see what happens
Yes I know about the side streets, but if this goes well we can figure out solutions to that too
Basically if we open up the main artery into town it should ease everything else also!!
Can they provide an email address to send the ideas to?
First suggestion – stop putting more developments on route 9 river Ave – one lane per side street.
Secondar suggestion – finally fix bussing situation which is causing major traffic
Third suggestion – stop squashing thirty houses in a development that should only have 3 as that causes more traffic and congestion in that area
Is there a way to give in suggestions without having to go to the meeting?
To NK:
Where would Hope Chapel and Cross St intersect for it to be widened? The closest area for those streets to meet is by Jackson Liberty HS.
Stop giving variances for 3 years solid, especially off high traffic arteries.
They want to see how strong our opposition is to what is going on in town with construction
To Harry
Great point. I would just add the prospect light & main st light to that list.
A couple suggestions…
I know this won’t go well with people on South Lake Dr, however it will help…
Cross the lake from sunset to forest, a major bridge is not necessary as it can simply be done by refilling most of the area with dirt. You will basically have two nice albeit smaller lakes. This will divert much traffic off Rt 9 at earlier intersections as well as free up alot of congestion by offering an alternate.
Create a new street running along the railroad tracks from Madison (Rt 9) until Main St (Rt 88). This a no brainer as many vehicles going into town will then have another way of reaching Clifton, Monmouth, Princeton etc. THIS WILL EASE TRAFFIC BACKING UP THE 9 BETWEEN JAMES AND CENTRAL. For those who didn’t realize, the track crosses over Rt 9 in that vicinity and there is empty land next to the tracks all the way until Rt 88. On second thought, scratch that idea… If there is land there, it would be sooo much better to build a couple thousand units there..
You know.. to help make housing more affordable
Widening Rt 9 is the only real solution. Anything else will only make a small difference. Lakewood is the 7th largest municipality in NJ, we need to come together and let the state know that this is a problem that must be fixed. Rt 9 traffic doesn’t only affect Lakewood, it affects Toms River and Howell as well. Overall, at least 100,000 people are being crippled by this issue. The state needs to realize that this problem will inevitably have to be fixed in the future, lets just do it now.
RT9 must be widened. If the cost is too much because of the need to purchase the adjacent land, how about the Builders that purchased the land for building donate it to the State. The builders can take the cost of the land off their taxes and the cost of the project will go down. If the Builders care about the Community, the way they say they do, this would really show us.
I do not believe that any study was done for the cross street and James area
They have no idea the traffic nightmare the additional thousands of homes will cause those people
First off a freeze NO MORE HIGH DENSITY APPROVALS UNTIL TRAFFIC IS UNDER CONTROL
second I PROPOSE A BRIDGE ON SUNSET AVE GOING TO YESHIVA
OVER THE LAKE
WOULD BE A HUGE RELIEF
Third open up as many side streets as possible
There are many paper streets
Open them up
Four maybe use the train system for rail trolleys
Five an overhead highway over rt 9 to allow cars to bypass lakewood completely
Six if we encourage more people to move in the empty areas of Howell brick Jackson and toms river it’ll spread the traffic around
Seven a traffic officer during rush hour moving traffic along at clogged arteries
BTW rt 9 widening will NEVER HAPPEN
You would need emeninent domain to break many properties any many people would hit the ceiling
Can we get Ridge Ave widened a bit between Nolan and Somerset?
And while they are all it, too pave it straight, so that it isn’t flooded over with every slightest rain?
Tunnel or Bridge over Rt. 9. and possibly other areas.
Sorry, didn’t mean a cross section, I meant widen both those streets….
