The Lakewood Township has revamped the leaf pickup program, and has also put into place an easy-to-remember number to make things more efficient for residents, TLS has learned.
For years, Lakewood residents would put out their leaf piles to the side of the road awaiting a pickup. However, many times the leaves would not be picked up for several weeks, allowing them to disperse and make a mess of peoples’ lawns.
This year, during November and December, the township put a renewed focus on the leaf pick up program and managed to get to nearly all homes throughout the town before the end of the year.
But in an effort to make sure that all leaf piles are picked up, the township launched an easy-to-remember extension to Town Hall, which would allow residents to leave a message with their address and receive a leaf pick up.
The system was implemented by Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller, and assisted by DPW Director Phil Roux, and DPW Assistant Director Murphy Santiago.
TLS reached out to Deputy Mayor about the program.
“I am very proud of the new system put into place,” Deputy Miller Menashe Miller told TLS. “We finally got a handle on snow pickup over the last few years, and last year we said that leaf pickup should be focused on as well.”
Miller added, “I’d like to thank everyone who made this program a success, as well as my colleagues in the township for getting this extension up and running to make this a more pleasurable and convenient experience for all.”
The number to call is 732-364-2500, extension LEAF (5323).
I actually DID notice that my leafs were picked up quicker and more often this year!
