Lakewood Township Officials Urge Caution After Child Injured in Playground Under Construction

Lakewood Township officials this morning are urging caution after an incident at a playground under construction which left a child injured.

Despite crews placing a fence around the playground under construction, it appears the gate over the weekend was taken down by kids, who then proceeded to play on the playground.

One of the children fell off the playground, and reportedly broke both her forearms and hospitalized.

The fence has been replaced, and officials asked TLS to remind parents to warn their children about the dangers of playing in construction sites.

    • Be warned that this playground is geared to big kids only. The equipment says 5-12 but some of the activities are very high up and definitely not safe for younger kids.

  1. the Torah obligates the owner of a Bor to cover it, and the owner of the roof to put up a durable fence, and you say it is the parents responsibility??? maybe you should be maavir sedra

    • A durable fence was completely surrounding it which would withstand normal winds and etc. Durable does not mean that determined kids can’t rip it down. That is equivalent to a cover on a bor. If someone comes along and removes the kisuy from the bor without the owner’s knowledge and then falls in how can you place resonsibility on the owner? And yes depending on the age of the child parents do need to know where their kids are and that they are playing in safe areas.

    • township is the american government who are not bound by that.
In any case it sounds like parents who let there children wander off for way too long and who were not mechanech their children not to wander into fenced off places.
Sad but this incident will serve as a self chinuch lesson that she may not have otherwise gotten

  2. The playground between prospect Park and prospect square that was installed by the township is installed all wrong and not according to the manufacturers instructions.

The equipment is about a foot higher above the ground higher then supposed to be.

It is very dangerous and irresponsible of the DPW.

  3. I was in Pine Park last week on Thursday. The orange net/gate was NOT there. It was totally open, with just 2 signs that stated it was under renovation which you could totally miss.

It looks like they put up that orange gate/netting after the accident.
