Lakewood Township Officials Meet with Railroad Company to Address Community Concerns

Lakewood Township officials this week met with the railroad company now managing the railroad tracks in Lakewood to address community concerns, officials told TLS.

The train tracks for decades were managed by Conrail, but management recently changed, and the tracks are now leased by Chesapeak and Delaware.

Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles tells TLS they have tried for years to arrange a meeting with Conrail, but to no avail. Following Chesapeak and Delaware’s takeover in July, Mayor Coles reached out to the new company, who immediately agreed to a meeting.

During the meeting at Town Hall, officials addressed the concerns many TLS readers have brought up over the years, including track safety, train schedules, crossing issues and more.

“We had a great meeting,” Coles said.

The new company, says Coles, is looking to accommodate the Township and its residents, and a meeting is being scheduled to begin working on the issues

  1. The tracks and train were running thru their way before Lakewood over built and put homes practically on the tracks. The audacity to think a rail line will change the schedule for a towns hissy fit is amazing.

  2. Josh life happens, deal with it you sound very bitter! The train serves 1 small purpose…. to bring wood to 2 lumber yards that’s not something that should inconvenience a city with 125k people

  3. Joe no one sounds bitter, Lakewood has over built and if you buy a home on the tracks you gotta expect a train..and the wood the train is being going helps the surrounding towns including Lakewood build what they need.

    • Wholeheartedly agree. If we could find a way to shuttle people on high traffic routes (such as Westgate area to BMG area), this could help everybody. This will likely involve bussing as well as the train.
