The Lakewood Township Committee is set to give final approval to several measures this evening intended to improve the safety and quality of life in Lakewood.
Included in those measures is one to dedicate a parcel of property at Fulton and Rockaway for the purpose of creating a park.
Township officials tell TLS that there are discussions about setting aside additional parcels of land around Lakewood in order to increase the number of parks and recreational areas in the township.
Additionally, the Township Committee is expected to give final approval this evening to new four-way stop signs at E. 7th Street and Somerset Avenue, which has proven to be one of the most perilous intersections in town.
“I am pleased that the Committee is poised to give approval to these much-needed projects around Lakewood,” Mayor Ray Coles told TLS. “Improving the safety and quality of life in Lakewood is our number one objective, and I’m glad we are taking a big step in the right direction this evening with these resolutions.”

How about a park on Lawrence and 10th? Lakewood has made millions of dollars from that tiny block and a nice park on the “field” would be great since it is sitting empty anyways…..Thanks in advance!
Where is Rockaway and Fulton?
There are 2 “Rockaway”s I could find in Lakewood.
One, Rockaway Ave off of Oak Street which is basically a small dead end road that is part of a girls school.
The other is Rockaway Rd in Raintree.
Neither intersect a road called Fulton and I could not find such a road in Lakewood at all.
There is a Funston Ave near Oak St ….
Hopefully more parks and playgrounds will be added and or updated soon. Lakewood is grossly underserved in this area.
I am hoping that maybe they will construct a spray park in lakewood. It would be a HUGE benefit in the summers with our kids.
too little, too late, not enough
Just curious, what happened to the toddler climbing area at sunset park?
There used to be 2 playsets and now there is only one. In place of the removed playset, there is an unfinished area full of tripping hazards.
Kol Shimshon Yid – I live right next to that lot. We do NOT want a park there.
You could put it in your backyard.
If you want to improve the quality of life in Lakewood then get everyone to take in the garbage cans when empty. Right now on Spruce St, the cans are lined next to the sidewalk and they stay there all week. In the summer, the stench is so bad that you have to cross the street and can’t walk on that side.
Township funding developers once again… the developers get all kinds of backyard, side yard, variances so they can squeeze another house in and people wonder where their kids are supposed to play!
Robert- in Toronto if one doesn’t timely bring in their cans and a neighbor emails 311 a complaint, they will cited with either a warning of a fine coming by day X or will just be fined. Ask your Lakewood council to copy that.
