Lakewood School District Takes Delivery Of New School Bus

PHOTO: The Lakewood Board Of Education took delivery of a new school bus this week. The school bus, which cost approximately $80,000, will be used for special events, school-trips and for emergency situations, board officials tell TLS.

The purchase of the school bus was approved by the Board in June, about a month after the district announced they intended to bring busing in-house, as first reported on TLS.

In May, the Transportation Department and Transportation Committee announced that they were looking to bring busing back in-house, and would look to purchase between 50-75 buses following a full cost-analysis. The move was intended to save a lot of money for the district, Transporatation Committee Chairman Isaac Zlatkin said at the time.

However, an official says the idea of bringing busing in-house may not actually come into frutition, but the bus will nevertheless come in handy for the school district. TLS.

  1. So, maybe after 15 years of outsourcing, in order to SAVE money,
it is now the intent to go back in house, to Save money.
Now it will be way too expensive to go back to the old way.

  2. it should be for public schools..Private schools should have to get their own contracts with bus companies..its shouldnt be the responsiblity of the Lakewood BOE to get bussing for all schools since private schools have different agendas and schedules..Public schools are under the control of the BOE Not the private schools..but this is Lakewood and Im sure its not that way..that is why the school system is going downhill because everyone wants a piece of the action…There should be a requirement for being on the BOE.. You must have a child in PUBLIC Schools and know the system..not worry about what money is going where.
I hope the BOE goes through with their plans to purchase more busses for the Public school kids..it is really needed..this way they are not left out on the streets waiting for a contract bus to come when they are done with all their other bus runs.
Just like the Private religious schools (ie Holy Family, Calvary ) in town have contracted services all the other private should have to contract their own busses as well. Is should not have to come out of the BOE monies for our schools..I dont have a child in private schools but my taxes are atrocious a school district this small should not have a $100 mil budget for 5 schools..its rediculous

  3. This is just another toy just like the iPads they bought, by the way where did they get the money for the ONE school bus.
” The school bus, which cost approximately $80,000, will be used for special events, school-trips and for emergency situations, board officials tell TLS.” in other words they have no idea or plan with what to do with the bus. My guess in 6 months it will be sold at a loss to someone.

  4. The new bus will save the district money in many ways. it should could be used for special or sports events for the children, moving children from one school to another as needed and more.

Does it make a difference who is using the bus as long as it’s saving the district money.

to #1- Children are children. The district jobs and yours should be to help our next generation.

  5. The bus could be used for the start for the arts program to transport the marching band that will be comming back to the Lakewood schools. After all, the board took the busses away years ago and now they are bringing them back. The arts program was dropped in the same manner. What a wonderful gesture for the board to bring back tha Arts program. The right thing to do.

  6. no one said the bus will be used for public or private
but one thing you should know is us parents who send are kids to private not only pay for our kids school but for your kids to with our sky high property taxes. so maybe we should benifit from some of these things too.

  7. Well maybe if you look around you benifit more than the public school, things have been taken away from public schools just so you can better things than the other children. Do you have overcrowded classrooms,no, you just build another school, that cost taxes also,or doesn’t that count.

  8. I do see people around Lakewood do pay taxes (not sky high, howell and Jackson are higher) but I also see homes in condo developments that are tax exempt. That is where its wrong and people get angry with others. What makes my home so different from my neighbors who’s home is tax exempt. He lives there just like I do in my home.

  9. To I Love Lakewood!:
That’s the light they were going to put on MLK and Pine, they just missed the street. Must be the Planning Board at its best. The only other reason for the light is that they are getting ready to build big time in that area between Pine and Cederbridge.

  10. Enuf said: please 99 percent of the ppl in private school are paying taxes for public school and there kids aint in public school and ironically 99 percent of public school aint paying taxes so what u talking about

  11. What are talking about who doesn’t pay taxes which condos are u dreaming about what where do u live not in lakewood only schools synagogsand churchs don’t pay dtuff like that so what??
