New Jersey American Water is launching a $6.8 million water infrastructure project in Lakewood aimed at replacing aging water mains and improving service reliability throughout several neighborhoods, the company said. Work is scheduled to begin on or around July 28, 2025, and is expected to continue through October 2025, weather permitting.
The project will replace approximately 15,900 feet of 6-inch and 8-inch water mains, originally installed as far back as the 1950s, with new 8-inch and 12-inch ductile iron mains. Construction will take place on the following streets:
-
Claire Dr
-
Princewood Ave
-
Courtier St
-
Sherwood Dr
-
Finchley Blvd
-

-
Lancewood Ct
-

-

-

-

The work will occur Monday through Friday between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with detours and street closures beginning after 10:00 AM. Final street restorations will be coordinated with the Township and are scheduled for Winter 2025.
In addition to replacing water mains, utility-owned service lines and fire hydrants along the pipeline route will also be updated. Temporary service interruptions and minor water discoloration may occur. Residents will be notified 24 hours in advance of any service line replacements, which typically cause a 30- to 60-minute water shutdown.
Drivers are urged to use caution and obey posted signs in work zones to ensure safety for both workers and the public.

Good luck to all those living in these areas. I live in the Central Ave area where they are doing this work for over a year and it’s been a complete disaster to say the least.
aren you kidding??? they havenet stopped creating traffic issues for years!! when will this end!?
Stop kvetching. Renovations are uncomfortable. Its still a better option
Yeah, where do you live?
They upgraded the water lines on Clover and East 4th last summer, and the roads (from Route 88 until Park) are still undriveable due to the condition they were left in from being ripped up nightly for 2 months. It has caused situations where either people are driving less than half the posted speed limit (which is only 25), or wildly swerving to avoid the worst of the potholes.
Whew! For a moment I was concerned that our street wouldn’t be listed.
Awesome-Sauce! So excited! Haven’t had any work done on our street for about a minute!
Flush Away!
Don’t be fooled this is not for your benefit – there’s nothing wrong with an older pipe that works – Its to accommodate all the new construction (which you didn’t want)
It’s embarrassing to see how ungrateful people are. I’m sure the same people complaining about the construction are the ones who complain that the town isn’t up to date with the amount of people living here. Yes construction is a pain and extremely annoying but that’s the price for everyone wanting to live in the same place.
