Lakewood Public Schools Making Gains on Statewide Tests

The Lakewood Public School District saw significant improvements on last spring’s State standardized tests, according to results obtained from the district.

Notably, the fifth grade at the Ella G. Clarke elementary school scored higher than the State average in scale score (and levels 4 and 5) in English Language Arts and Math.

In addition, grades 6-8 saw significant increases across the district in English Language Arts, and 93.9% of the 8th graders who took the Algebra 1 test, received a score of 4/5.

(A score of 4 means state expectations were met, while 5 means State expectations were exceeded)

In a statement, Board spokesperson Michael I. Inzelbuch said  “once again, these results show that our staff is dedicated to providing our Lakewood students with a thorough and efficient education despite all obstacles. In Lakewood, ALL children are important.”

“While we have a way to go in certain areas, with regard to test scores, the trajectory is upward,” Inzelbuch added.

Statewide, the average score was 737, while the Lakewood Middle School average was 791.

The New Jersey Student Learning Assessments, known as the NJSLA, were taken by students across New Jersey in grades 3-8 in math, English Language Arts, and science.

  1. This is great news, Mr. Inzelbuch and Lakewood Scoop media, but this does not solve this problem – Lakewood Public Schools are all ready $125 million in debt with the BOE asking NJ for another $93 million! This is not sustainable long term….

  2. Why does Mr. Inzelbuch want to try to bend over backwards to try to show that Lakewood is doing better, when it is in the interest of all Lakewood taxpayers to show the opposite and to finally have the state fix the formula?
