Lakewood Police Track Down Two Drivers Caught on Video Passing a School Bus; LPD to Crack Down

Two drivers who were caught on video passing flashing lights of a school bus in Lakewood have been tracked down and ticketed, police tell TLS.

Videos of these infractions were caught on dashcam video here and here.

The drivers were located by Lakewood’s Traffic Safety division, and issued tickets for passing a school bus – which carries fines and five points on the license.

“Due to the recent uptick in such incidents, I have instructed our Traffic Safety division to crack down and look out for such dangerous infractions,” Police Chief Greg Meyer told TLS. “The safety of the vulnerable children is paramount.”

  1. TLS better make sure that you guys aren’t being מוסר. I know you think it’s simple and ok but I assure you that it’s not. If what the driver did was illegal but still not necessarily dangerous you probably not allowed to report it. And since all you’re going by is a 3 second clip of dashcam and you weren’t there it’s very hard to know if it was actually dangerous. And if the police are tracking people down because of your post it’s not poshut at all. And one of the most severe aveiros.

    • Passing a bus is always dangerous because you don’t know where the kids will be walking. With your mindset why not run red lights? It’s illegal but not dangerous IF you don’t cause an accident? Oh wait isnt your logic exactly why Lakewood is such a fantastic, safe, pleasure of a town to drive in?
Just because it didn’t turn into a tragedy doesn’t mean it was not dangerous. The very fact that you would even jump to something other than the safety of children shows the twisted misguided mentality that’s destroying our communities. It genuinely disturbing that there are so many so called “FRUM” people who think like you.

    • My thoughts exactly I’m not sure why we are so happy and celebrating that other yidden got in trouble.
I get that you are trying to bring about an awareness,
But lets stick together with our brothers we are on the same side .

    • Um…. Passing a School Bus with their flashers on MEANS STOP!! Picking up or dropping off kids with their flashers on means STOP!! IT IS ILLEGAL so yes it MUST be reported!!

      • IT IS ILLEGAL to pass a School Bus with Flashers on and a STOP sign out!! SO MEANS STOP!! Whether they are crossing the street or not!!

    • From the video it seems like it was hameivin yavin. Regardless though, that is extremely dangerous and involves children who often won’t look before crossing. This is not mesira, it is Pikachu nefesh!

  2. Due to the uptick!!?? Due to the severity this needs to be dealt with regardless. Ideally every serious infraction should be dealt with immediately regardless of how many infractions they are.

  3. A few weeks ago a bus driver was cited for discharging a student while stopped in the middle of an intersection blocking all lanes of traffic. Due to the lack of good judgement of some drivers that bus driver may have saved a life.

  4. About time!! This needs to happen ALL OVER!! The law is there for a reason!! And if anyone dies NOT like it… Guess what?! You CANNOT change it because you don’t like it!! It’s been there since before you were born!! Whether crossing the street or not!!

  5. Firstly, not sure how this is legal since NJ does not use speed cams or red light cams. Secondly a previous comment is correct in that no points can be given as there is no proof who the driver was.

  6. This is definitely a very serious issue

I am wondering if people are not fully aware of what to do when approaching a school bus with the yellow lights flashing. I have seen bus drivers go 100’s of feet with the yellow flashing. Very hard to know what to do
If someone could post the rule for school bus passing I think it would be helpful
    Thank you

    • The rule is DO NOT PASS!! IT IS ILLEGAL…. It is in the Driver Manual that you should have studied before you got your permit or license. The LAW IS THE LAW!!

  7. Thank you LPD!!! I’m not sure how anyone passing a bus with the red lights on is not considered a rotzeach. My daughter has had to many close calls despite the bus stopping in front of my house (special needs bus) and on the correct side of the street! There was short time during which she was being picked up on the other side of the street. MOST if the time the cars DID NOT STOP!
