Lakewood Police to Patrol Bricktown as Department Mourns Death of Patrolman

lpd nt ch tlsThe Lakewood Police Department this evening will be patrolling Brick, assisting the Brick Police Department as they mourn the death of one of their own.

Brick Police Officer Kristopher DeMarco, 38, died last Saturday after a battle with cancer, and his funeral is being held this evening.

To relieve the Department during this time of mourning, area police departments will be pitching in, taking over different shifts.

Lakewood police officers will be taking over a midnight shift this evening, Wednesday, Police Chief Rob Lawson told TLS. Approximately eight officers will be assigned to the detail.

When the Lakewood Police Department was mourning the deaths of officers Preslar and Matlosz, area police departments did the same for Lakewood.

DeMarco was a 12-year veteran in the department, and will be laid to rest at the Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.

The way LPD is overstretched in town, I don’t see how they can handle covering Brick

I appreciate that gesture and all that the Lakewood police do for us. To the family of Officer DeMarco – so sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing Officer DeMarco with the community, his service was greatly appreciated. May you know of no more sorrow and only happiness.

You completely missed the whole point of this story because youre blinded by selfishness. Lakewood pd is extending their hand to help another locale department thats in mourning. I am sure Lakewood is covered completely in regard to police officers and brick is most likely being patrolled by volunteers or officers on overtime. Common sense goes a long way…should use it.

The officers doing this are doing it on their days off. This will not affect patrol in town

I believe the patrols may be done by officers who would otherwise be off duty at that time.

It’s always sad when someone is taken away so young and so tragically but it’s especially sad when it’s someone who is law enforcement when their life is dedicated to helping others as is the case with Kristopher DeMarco. Many of us most probably did not even know this special individual but merely being its someone who was out there helping our neighboring community makes this more personal.

A Ball, This is called Helping out a Brother or Fellow Police Department when needed. Little do you know, neighboring towns are always assisting with each other like back up mv stops, mva, fires, ems runs etc.. Brick PD is mourning the loss of a fellow officers and with the neighboring towns assisting with patrol duties, it relieves that pressure of the current Brick Officers to know that their town is being protected.

What he may have meant was that its taking out of the town budget to pay off duty cops the overtime night rates.
He is however 100% wrong (and selfish) for the reasons listed above, especially the fact that by default neighboring police work together, since the “crooks” don’t stop when the get to the border!
