Lakewood Police Department Takes Delivery Of 2 Dodge Chargers

PHOTO: The Lakewood Police Department yesterday took delivery of two new Dodge Chargers. The new vehicles, budgeted last year, are the first of the sort to be added to the fleet of patrol cars.

“They were pretty much the cheapest vehicles available out there”, an official told TLS.

The Chargers come three years after the department took delivery of their Crown Victorias, which now have over 100,000 miles on them, the official said.

But it will be about two weeks before theĀ fast cars hit the road, as they’re in the process of being equipped with computers, cameras and a radio system. The cars will remain white with LPD decals, the official said. TLS/Photo courtesy of Ed Bischoff.

  1. Congrats LPD! I know as great of a workhorse as Crown Vics are the LPD’s fleet is pretty aged and most of the them are more then just 3 years old so glad to hear it. I just wish the brass would choose one paint color and striping scheme and stick with it. Those Chevy Tahoe’s in the blue with black bumpers look really sharp, would be nice if that was the colors going forward.

  2. does it really matter what color the cars are ?? does that affect how fast they can respond ? is blue faster then white. i am happy they finally got new cars. the ldp need like 20 more new cars and no i am not a cop

  3. It would be helpful if all the cars were the same color though so I know when to slam on my brakes when speeding to avoid getting a ticket

  4. I guess this is what happens with a Free for all Township & Police Department! And if they continue with they’re amazing track record, it’ll prob be anothe 6 months b4 they actually “hit the road”!

  5. yikes with the negative comments. its not like the people driving the cars watch our town and keep us safe…jeez. congrats to the LPD and many miles of good luck!

  6. The cars are not the same color because you have a mix of fords, chevys and dodges, the three auto makers dont make the same colors or shades. I work for the county and I believe towns also much purchase off the NJ State bid list and if the cheapest car is white then they must purchase white even if blue is only $1 more.

  7. Hey anonymous referring to construction sites. Those cars are not first line cars. The cars you see idling at construction sites are designated specifically for that. Oh and the officers you see just sitting there doing “nothing” are doing these jobs on their days off.

  8. To #16…before you speak on something you have no idea of, those “designated” cars are owned by the towship, which charges the contractors a fee to use them. So please, before you begin the old “Waste of taxpayer money” rant, know the facts.

  9. Just like I said the other day, something as simple as letting the people of this town know about new cars there is nothing but negative remarks towards the police officers, “construction site’s etc, didn’t see anything said about the vehicles being at torah movements. And why would anyone care what color the car or cars are as long as the police get to your house when you call for help.

  10. The best thing about staying with one style of marking the car is recognition. There are nut bags out there that have pulled over people in what may appear to be police cars driven by imposters. At least if they are all marked the same you can better identify the good from the bad.

  11. Dont pay these comments any mind Retired PD. They represent the few ignorant sheep that believe that everything and everyone is against them. The large majority of the residents love and appreciate all you guys for everything you do.

  12. The reason the township steered away from blue or the “black and white’s” in the past is because it costs alot more money to fix them up when they get into accidents or fender benders. Think about it, having to repaint a vehicle as opposed to just putting a new stripe on.

  13. To #13 If the police officers showed more respect for the community maybe they would receive more support and have more people supporting them. But when they go out and do what they want and act how they act they get negative comments.

We need the police dept to implement a new officer training program that involves officers standing on Clifton ave at bagel nosh and other stores shmuzeing with residents and understanding how our community operates.

  14. #25- You can’t be serious. You won’t find a police dept that caters more to the “community” than LPD. They go above and beyond to understand and respect ALL the residents of this town, not just the frum ones. Your comment is extremely disrespectful to our wonderful police force. Maybe instead of having officers “standing on Clifton ave at bagel nosh and other stores shmuzeing with residents and understanding how our community operates.”, you should talk to one of our wonderful officers and see how they really are. Shame on you.
