After reading the report about the fire that destroyed a family’s home on Thursday, a Lakewood Police Officer’s wife felt the family’s loss and decided to do something about it.
A neighbor of the fire victim tells TLS she was contacted by Mrs. Victoria Messer, wife of Lakewood Police Officer Chase Messer, to inquire where she could drop something off for the family.
On Friday, Officer Chase Messer drove to a family member’s home with a bunch of toys, giving the children some relief after the fire destroyed all of their toys, and all their parents’ belongings.
The neighbors – who have been assisting the family with other needs – were extremely moved by this gesture by total strangers.
“They are a really nice couple who always look to do the right thing,” said a friend of the Messers.
Officer Chase Messer has been serving on the Lakewood Police force for approximately seven years, and was recently joined by his younger brother Charles Messer.

Wow, great story. I once had to go down to the police station to file a police report. Officer Messer was very proffessional and helpful. We in Lakewood are very lucky to have such police officers.
