A Lakewood police officer was injured while chasing a suspect who took off running from police.
At approximately 11:15 pm last night, Officer Kevin Seunath encountered a group of men walking along Country Club Drive after receiving a complaint of suspicious activity.
Upon exiting his patrol car, he made contact with the men and began collecting preliminary information.
An off duty police Officer from a neighboring town saw that Officer Seunath was by himself and stood by until the arrival of additional Lakewood Officers.
During the encounter, it was learned that one of the men, identified as 26 year old Justin Schneider of Brick NJ, had an outstanding traffic warrant for his arrest out of East Orange.
Mr. Schneider immediately stood up and fled on foot across four lanes of traffic on County Line Road. Officer Seunath, as well as Officer Kevin Bell who was now on scene, gave chase but lost sight of him in a residential backyard.
Officer Seunath required medical attention after receiving a laceration to his arm while jumping over a six foot chainlink fence.
At this time additional charges have been filed against Schneider for Resisting Arrest By Flight, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and Obstruction. Bail was set in the amount of $15,000 by Municipal Court Judge Scott Basen.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Justin Schneider is urged to contact Dsgt. Staffordsmith at 732-363-0200 ext 5318.
