Lakewood Police nab Brick robbery suspect in unrelated arrest

A man arrested by Lakewood police officers for a warrant out of Brick, turned out to be the man wanted for a robbery in Brick.

On January 5, a robbery occurred in the early morning hours at the 7-11 convenience store, located at 856 Rt. 70, in Brick Township.

The suspect entered the store, proceeded to the cooler, took a Snapple drink, and approached the counter. Keeping his right arm concealed in his jacket, he told the clerk he had a gun. The suspect demanded money, grabbed some from the clerk’s hand as the register was open, and left with an undisclosed amount of proceeds. Suspect was believed to have left the area on foot.

On Friday April 5, Detective Joseph Leskowski and Thomas Cooney arrested Luis Claudio, 35 years old of Howell Township, and charged him with robbery.

Claudio had been arrested by officers from the Lakewood Police Department on an unrelated warrant from Brick Township, which then led to the arrest and ensuing robbery charges.

A cooperative investigation effort into Claudio’s crimes included Detectives from Brick Township, Toms River, Lakewood, and Berkeley Townships. Claudio has been charged with five counts of robbery and multiple weapons offenses. Claudio is currently lodged at Ocean County Jail.
