Lakewood Police Investigate $20,000 in Damage to Surveillance Camera Trailer

Lakewood Police are investigating the deliberate sabotage of a surveillance camera trailer which sustained nearly $20,000 in damage, TLS has learned.

The cameras were set up at the 7-11 on River Avenue due to ongoing issues with disruptive behavior by juveniles and young adults, including fights involving pepper spray, physical altercations, and a shooting. Several local businesses and gas stations have been impacted by the disturbances.

Sources tell TLS that police have instituted a zero-tolerance policy for curfew violations and disorderly conduct, and over the last several weeks, several individuals have been arrested.

Police are working to obtain surveillance footage to identify those involved in the vandalism. Due to the tower itself being damaged, they have not yet retrieved the footage form those cameras.

Anyone with information is urged to contact LPD.

Does anyone have first-hand knowledge of these disturbances?

Yes. I have seen video of young boys arguing with police, causing them to be handcuffed, and another video of a group of boys arguing with a girl. I’ve also seen video of two separate fires intentionally set. A lot of issues at night at around the 7-11, hence the need for cameras. It’s getting out of hand. Another night about 2:30 AM, I was driving by the Lake and a teenage boy was lying in the street, pretending to be injured. This is not funny. Parents need to talk to their kids.

Maybe people shouldn’t be hanging around 7-11 to begin with. Maybe the curfew should apply to such stores also – that attract such a crowd. That would be nice.

This is quite disturbing.
Not only did someone have the gall to directly attack police property, not only did they do it while the cameras were on and the lights above were flashing, but in the process they revealed a massive flaw in that the system apparently does not transmit in real time, but records locally.

This was likely just a punk trying to be smart, but now organized crime has a valuable piece of intel about how to bypass these cameras: just steal the hard drives.

Not good.

The fact that they have been unable to retrieve the footage should have be held closer to the chest.

Hidden identifying points, H’Y we shouldn’t need biometric data scanning, the boys wear hoodies and it’s at night
