Lakewood Police Department Releases Gun Carry Permit Checklist

The Lakewood Police Department today released a checklist for those seeking to apply for a gun carry permit.

As earlier reported, despite the Supreme Court removing the justifiable need requirement, all other aspects of the gun carry permit are still intact.

As a reminder, a gun permit does not give you a right to carry a gun. You need a separate gun carry license.

See the checklist below.

  1. While some of the requirements are understandable, the sum total of this list is that we want to make it quite difficult to get the carry permit. Examples: the need to provide a drivers license and a birth certificate. Most people easily have a DL but many don’t have a birth certificate so you will have to go through the hoops of getting one. Why the double ID in the first place? Fingerprinting: anyone making this application has to have already received a Firearms ID card, which requires fingerprinting. Are their individuals who may own firearms without getting the FID? Make them get fingerprinted, the rest can just submit a copy of their FID. For that matter, the FID also confirms that you already passed the mental health check and qualifies you to own a firearm. It should be enough with a driver’s license to submit with the form and the fee.

  2. The anti-2nd Amendment Dems will pull out all the stops to subvert the Supreme Court’s recent ruling protecting the right to publicly carry a handgun.

Once you’ve overcome the burdensome documentation requirements and expensive training course fees to obtain a carry permit, it will have all been for naught as the governor abuses the loophole which allows restrictions for carrying in “sensitive spaces.” As one pundit noted, Murphy will declare that EVERYWHERE outside your front door is a “sensitive space,” thereby making it illegal to carry ANYWHERE. Of course his shenanigans will be challenged in court, but it could take years before his executive orders are struck down as unconstitutional.

I recently received my permit to “purchase” (not “carry”) a handgun, and my Mossberg MC2c is on order, to be shipped to WeShoot, a local FFL. But I won’t be in any hurry to go through the rigamarole of getting a carry permit, only to find out that it may presently be practically meaningless.
