Authorities are investigating after a police-contracted tow truck was stolen in Toms River and Located in Howell, TLS has learned.

The tow truck operator is contracted with Lakewood Police to tow vehicles from accidents or impound vehicles involved in investigations.

Another driver reportedly followed the thieves, who fled after ditching the truck on Route 9 in Howell near the Lakewood border.

Police K9 and CSI were requested.
