[PHOTO] On Saturday, September 25, the Lakewood Police Department participated in the DEA’s Operation Take Back NJ which provided township residents with a safe, legal and environmentally friendly means of disposing of unwanted, unused and expired drugs and medications.
Officer Ken Work, the department’s Property and Evidence Officer, collected items dropped off at Lakewood Police Headquarters located at 231 3rd Street. For the convenience of township residents, volunteers from Lakewood PBA Local #71, staffed multiple locations throughout town including: Original Leisure Village, Leisure Village East, Lions Head Woods, Fairways at Lake Ridge, Four Seasons, Leisure Park and Harrogate. Provisions were also made for members of the Orthodox Community to drop of items on Sunday, September 26, 2010.
Police Chief Rob Lawson says, “Our thanks to the officers who volunteered their time to make this initiative a success: Captain Michael Mooney, Ptl. Ralph Hatt, Ptl. Sean Doyle, Ptl. Lynn Miller, Ptl. Rob Lopez, Ptl. Chris DiBiase, Ptl. Kevin Martin, Det. Dan Tworkoski, Ptl. Steve Berner, Ptl. Summer Cunliffe, Ptl. Nadine Clarke, Ptl. Gary Przewoznik (PBA President) and Det. LeRoy Marshall (PBA Vice President).”
At the end of the day, the officers had collected over 225 lbs of items which was the largest amount of any municipality in Ocean County.
“I would also like to thank the Lakewood Township Residents who participated in this detail, as their homes, children, community and the environment are safer from their actions in properly disposing of these unwanted items”, the Chief said.

hmmm so thats why all the cops looks so laid back and happy lately
so we are extra nice now when we ari writing tickets……………
This is making me sick…. Pardon the pun… the cops should be out COLLECTING THE ILLEGAL DRUGS ON THE STREET not being good samaritans and helping people with their trash. FLUSH THE OLD PILLS and REMOVE THE GANGS!!!!
flushing the old drugs has been proven to send them back into your water suppply chachum.
They volunteered, they can do what they want…. just shush.
Thank you once again for volunteering your time. I’m sure there were other places you’d rather have been.
#3 you obviously don’t know that one of the biggest drug problems facing people is prescription drugs!
LPD great idea and great job
#3 your clueless my friend
prescription drug abuse is a major issue. homes get robbed for drugs. people start with prescription drug abuse and then move on to other street drugs. From what I understand it is very prevalent w/young people- easier to get than street drugs in a lot of cases and just as easy to overdose.
It’s a huge problem and the LPD did a great service to the community. Thank you for volunteering your time!
great job
