Lakewood Police Chief Greg Meyer answers your ‘Ask The Chief’ questions: A couple of suggestions

The following is an ‘Ask The Chief’ question submitted to TLS, and the Chief’s response. Email your questions for the Chief to [email protected].

Question:

Good morning chief.

First, I’d like to thank you for all your hard work manning our police department. I’m sure it’s not a simple task!

Just wondering what you think about a couple ideas I had to make traffic flow just a bit smoother:

1. Somerset & 7th – could we get a 4 way stop sign at this corner? Somerset gets pretty backed up certain hours of the day and night.

2. Clifton Ave & 10th – could we maybe get a big “Do Not Block The Box” painted at this corner? The issue is that, traffic backs up southbound due to the 4 way stop at Clifton & 9th, but drivers often block 10th Street which makes it very difficult to cross Clifton Ave.
Hopefully, a painted box would deter some offenders.

3. Essex Street at Vine Avenue – could we get yellow paint on the corner of Essex Street? People often park too close to the corner and it’s very difficult to drive out the school driveway that is on Essex.

4. Funstone at Oak Street – same issue as above. Could we get yellow paint on Funstone near the stop sign?

Once again, thanks for all your good work.

The Chief’s response:

Thank you for bring these ideas forward, we will look into what we can do about this. As always, leave early and drive with caution.

  1. For the issue at essex/vine it would be best to not allow street parking at all. Currently, both sides get lined with parked cars (often too close to the stop sign/intersection) creating a single lane that oncoming opposite traffic has to squeeze past and pray no one gets dinged. Eliminating street parking on one, or BOTH sides of the road will ensure a safer experience.
