A 24 year old Wrightstown man was arrested in Lakewood early this morning on several firearms possession charges after a motor vehicle stop.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Officer Tyler Distefano witnessed the operator of a 1999 Jeep LMT take a wide right turn at a high rate of speed at the intersection of River Avenue and John Street.

A motor vehicle stop was initiated by Officer Distefano and Officer Andrew Meyer in front of 144 John Street.

As the driver and sole occupant, Erik Zapata, retrieved paperwork from the glove box, Officer Meyer observed a loaded magazine for a handgun. The driver was then removed from the vehicle and further investigation resulted in the recovery of a loaded handgun and a rifle capable of shooting small caliber pellets.

Erik Zapata was charged with the Unlawful Possession of Weapons and bail was set at $70,000 with a 10% option.
