PHOTOS: About 25 Lakewood Police Officers were among the thousands of law enforcement officials from around the country in attendance at the funeral of NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu on Sunday in Brooklyn.
Liu was murdered along with his partner Rafael Ramos while they sat in their patrol car in Brooklyn two weeks ago. The shooter Ismaaiyl Brinsley opened fire at them at point blank range, killing them both before taking his own life.
The funeral was held in Brooklyn. The funeral of Liu’s partner, Rafael Ramos, was held last week in Queens.

Anyone know if these 25 officers were paid by the township to go or did they dedicate their own time to show respect for a fallen hero?
Meow, hLPD is a well rounded, well known, and prestigious police dept. The sense of paying the officers to go is out of context. No the officers were not paid. They were affected by the same thing & cops from as far as Washington state came in the mourning of Officer Matlosz. New York isn’t a far drive. They went because they respect their fallen brothers not for money.
Either way it’s the right thing thing to do.
asking about if they were paid is just classless. show some respect. police everywhere are due our gratitude
Rob-
Thanks for clarifying. I’m just wondering why it is that police officers feel such a sense of brotherhood with officers from other departments in such a way that you wouldn’t find by other professions. For example, are pilots from all over the world going to travel to the funeral of the pilot of the fallen AirAsia flight?
Also, since you seem to have good department information, why is it that only three officers from LPD attended Officer Ramos’s funeral while 25 attended Officer Liu’s funeral? Just curious …. Was the timing just better for Officer Liu’s funeral?
Thank you LPD!
Meow, please try and make sense! Air Asia is an accident, cop killing is terror against cops and all of us. Is that clear?
Throughout the course of Sunday a large sum of LPD Officers were present/stood honor guard at the viewing of retired Marine/ Lakewood Police Officer #143 Jesse Williscroft. Again paying their respects for a fallen brother.
Meow,
I would like to tell you since you r so curious. A delegation of 25 Lakewood Officers went to New York City for both Ramos and Liu funerals. Not only did we go up and pay our respects but we went up Via The Lakewood PBA bus and fed anyone who came to the bus. We served officers from not just New York, Not just from the United States but from around the world. We also fed the residents in the neighborhood that we were parked. You ask why we have “such a seance of brotherhood”???? The question should be how does an ordinary person wake up put on a gun, a bullet proof vest and a uniform and risks his life for perfect strangers when his loved ones are home waiting for him to come home. Or why a family would allow their loved one to leave a loving home to protect perfect strangers possibly with their lives!!!!!! But to answer your question about Brotherhood. The answer is simple. Police officers are full of pride, love and respect and when one of our own dies in the line of duty a little part of each and police officer dies with them !!!!!
Steve – (pardon me for not using all the fancy titles you entitled yourself with)
First, I assume the PBA is a privately funded organization as it would be a mighty disregard of taxpayers money. Second, why is it that coal miners put on a pick and a hard hat to mine coal so that perfect strangers can have coal? PERHAPS ITS BECAUSE ITS THEIR JOB!!!! (I’m not disrespecting the appreciation common folk have to have for cops, just your question.)
Finally, why does “pride, love and respect” translate into “a little part of each police officer dies with them”? I’m also full of pride love and respect for the human race but I don’t feel like a little part of me died every time someone dies.
STATE DELEGATE STEVE KELUSAK PBA- WOW!! BEAUTIFULLY SPOKEN!!! IT IS OUR HONOR TO HAVE YOU PROTECT US! AND MAY G-D PROTECT YOU N UR LOVED ONES THROUGHOUT UR ENTIRE LIFE!!
