PHOTOS: The Lakewood Piners this evening are one step closer to the State Championship after beating the Point Pleasant Boro High School basketball team in the State Tournament Quarterfinals with a score of 69-36.
The win comes after the Piners took the Shore Conference Tournament (SCT) – for the first time in 22 years. The last time Lakewood won the SCT was in 1991 vs. Lacey, when now Head Coach Randy Holmes played under the direction of former Head Coach John “Pott” Richardson – who was present at this evening’s game.
Earlier this month, the Lakewood High School Gymnasium was dedicated in Richardson’s honor.
Also present at this evening’s game, was Mayor Albert Akerman, Simcha Greenwald and Board of Education members Joel Schwartz and Yoni Silver.
The Semifinals will be held this Friday evening, and the Championship this coming Monday. TLS.

The opening sentence is in Yinglish. It should be corrected to This evening the Lakewood Piners etc.
does he ever tie his tie? lol
come on put a picture of the team and coach up first
Great to see the Mayor and BOE members coming together for our Lakewood students
#4 is right! Where are the pictures of the amazing team and coach who earned this win? Congrats guys, I’m sure you all worked hard and deserve the recognition.
Coach Randy Holmes is in the center of the last photo in the blue checked shirt and tie posing at halftime. The team did not have the opportunity to do a group shot. The were focused entirely on the game and nobody wanted to distract them from the task at hand.
the officers that work this game are pro active cops, they should be the street crimes unit.
