Lakewood officials receiving complaints of fireworks around Town

Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles tells TLS Town officials are receiving complaints about the increase of fireworks ahead of July 4th holiday.

“With the Fourth of July approaching, we have already started to see a large increase in the use of fireworks, both legal & illegal,” Coles said. “I am just asking everyone to be extremely careful with all fireworks and to please stay with the products you can buy legally in many stores.”

The late-night fireworks are also causing a disturbance.

“I have been receiving a lot of calls from folks complaining about fireworks exploding late at night,” Coles said. “Many have young children who are scared by the noise & have trouble getting back to sleep. I can attest to my pets having the same reaction. Many nights I must coax our younger dog out from behind the couch, where she takes refuge from the noise.

The Mayor added, “I enjoy Fireworks as much as the next person. I am asking everyone to be considerate of their neighbors, both 2 legged and 4 legged, and refrain from using any fireworks which generate loud bangs. The ones which make the loudest noises are also the most dangerous. Please refrain from using these and be extremely careful with any that you do use.”

“For those of us who are content to sit back and watch a great Fireworks Display, I hope to see you out by the lake on July 3. Stay Safe.”

  1. Read the Mayor’s comments concerning fireworks. That’s the same answer he gave me last year, yet here adjacent to Leisure Village it’s like a war zone with hours long explosions. Besides disturbing the peace it scares and terrifies the dogs. Never a cop in sight and inaction from the mayor; he is all dribble.
