Lakewood Officer Hospitalized With CO Poisoning from Vehicle

kmc new mmc A Lakewood Police Officer was hospitalized after Carbon Monoxide emissions from a vehicle left her feeling ill, Detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith says.

“A custodian left his car idling in front of the school at Madison Ave and Ninth Street, says Sattfordsmith. “Apparently it had an emissions problem so it was putting off a foul smell.”

The Hazmat team and fire dept were called out, but cancelled after they realized it was coming from the car.

“The responding officer, Jeanette Shimonovich went to KMC after feeling ill with the effects of Carbon Monoxide,” Staffordsmith says. She is expected to be released shortly. [TLS-CCP/TLS-46]

  1. Can someon please explain to me why officers always have their cars running when has is so expensive and township has no money? Someone once told me bc if there is an emergency they have to be able to just go but that’s crazy bc turning car in takes a second. Even when their off duty by construction sites same story car is always running. I just don’t get it as this practice must cost an extra tens of thousands of dollars every year between all SUV and patrol cars just sitting there idling

  2. The veh at the contruction sites are there as a warning deterent. They keep the cars running because if they turned them off eventually the batteries would die with all the lights running on the cars. This way it keeps the batteries fully charged and it prevents someone from hitting them most of the time..However when that person is like a “deer in headlights” when they get around the cars it may not work. And when they are working, well its so if they are sitting and doing paperwork or reports in their cars, hense keeping the batteries on the computers charged as well. Those Laptops suck after a few hours of typing..or even a few minutes..its not like your personal laptop
