There is a new scam going around, in which Lakewood residents are receiving calls from a party claiming to be the water company, and threatening to terminate service for an overdue bill.
TLS reached out to the MUA’s Executive Director, Justin Flancbaum, who cautioned residents about the matter.
“Residents should be aware that this a scam and not coming from the Lakewood MUA,” said Flancbaum. “People should not give their credit card or bank information to anyone over the phone. If there is a doubt, they can always call our office.”
The Water Protection Law Firm Of NJ [WPLFONJ], consisting of some of the state’s leading attorneys in all matters related to water utilities – specifically faucet, sprinkler and toilet flow – released a statement on Monday offering its services to all NJ residents who’ve recently received phone calls from scam artists who’ve threatened to shut down their water supply unless they pay them their water utility bills.
“If you receive a call from a crooked, nasty individual who is threatening to turn off your water, unless you hand him over your credit card and bank info,” the statement said, “do not panic! Because our experienced attorneys will see to it that your water supply keeps flowing without interruption.”
“We will block all crooked attempts to shut down your water supply,” the statement went on to say, “and we won’t take a penny from you if your water utility service is suddenly terminated!”
“Please contact our main office in Nigeria and speak with one of our customer reps,” the statement concluded, “so we can assign you a top lawyer with years of experience in keeping NJ faucets and toilet tanks up and running. Simply provide our customer reps with your payment info, including your social security number, date of birth and your bank account or credit card info, and we will charge you a small fee to ensure that the your faucets and toilet tanks never stop flowing.
